What you should know

The Illinois Fighting Illini have been 6-1 against the Wisconsin Badgers since October 2015, but they have a chance to close the gap a little on Saturday. Illinois and Wisconsin face off in a Big Ten clash at 12:00 p.m. ET at Camp Randall Stadium. The Fighting Illini will march in after a win, while the Badgers will stumble in after a loss.

Illinois put the board against the Chattanooga Mocs last Thursday, but Chattanooga never followed suit. Illinois blew past the Mocs 31 to nothing. The team collected 24 points in the first half and used them to win. Illinois QB Tommy DeVito threw it as he passed for three TDs and 329 yards on 31 tries. That was DeVito’s first 300-yard rush this season.

Meanwhile, the night started rough for the Badgers last week, and so did it. It couldn’t have gone much worse for them, losing 52-21 to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Wisconsin was in a difficult position at halftime as the score was already 31-7. Helping the losing side was RB Braelon Allen, who rushed for 165 yards and a TD with 23 carries. That touchdown – a 75-yard rush in the fourth quarter – was one of the highlights of the game.

The Fighting Illini are expected to lose this next one by 6.5. Given their 3-0 record against the spread, the odds for bets placed on them look good.

Illinois is now 3-1 while Wisconsin sits at 2-2. Two defensive stats to keep in mind as you watch: Illinois enters the matchup after picking up the ball six times, good for 13th in the nation. But Wisconsin is even better: They enter the competition after picking up the ball eight times, good for fifth in the nation. We’ll see if that advantage gives Wisconsin a path to victory.
