Yucatan, Mexico Will Host the 50 Best Latin American Restaurants

Yucatán is well known for its Mayan culture, its famous Mayan ruins of Chichen Itzá, the pink lakes of Las Coloradas and experiences like swimming with sea turtles in Akumal or with whale sharks and exploring the city of Mérida. Yucatan food is also recognized around the world.

This is why the 50 Best Restaurants in Latin America 2022 will be held in Mérida. The competition, sponsored by San Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, returns on Tuesday 15th November with a regular schedule and in-person award ceremony – the first full gathering of Latin America’s gastronomic community since 2019.

The awards program, previously held in Mexico, Colombia, Peru and Argentina, will return to Mexico in 2022, with a new home here in Mérida in partnership with the Yucatán State Department of Tourism.

At the culmination of this year’s culinary calendar, chefs, restaurateurs, media and foodies will gather in the cultural and gastronomic capital of Mexico’s southeastern region to celebrate the richness and diversity of Latin American cuisine.

An exclusive program of events held throughout Mérida will culminate in the awards ceremony, which will take place on November 15th. Three special price announcements will precede the live program:

—Latin America’s Best Female Chef Award on September 20

—The Icon Award on October 11th

– The American Express One To Watch Award on October 25th

Despite the impact of COVID-19 on the region’s restaurant sector, 50 Best will celebrate more restaurants than ever by announcing a first list of 50 more restaurants ranked 51st to 100th in Latin America. The 51-to-100 list will be announced on November 3rd and casts a well-deserved spotlight on a wider range of hospitality businesses and the region’s diverse culinary cultures.
