2023 French Open LIVE: Scores and latest updates from Roland Garros as Novak Djokovic and Cameron Norrie play second-round matches

Djokovic: “Thanks to Aleks…he will go far” – after beating Kovacevic at the French Open

Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz mark the fourth round of the French Open as the second round begins at Roland Garros.

Djokovic and Alcaraz are on a collision course in Paris after ending up in the same half of the draw and both advancing in straight sets on Monday. But Djokovic was once again at the center of controversy with a message on Kosovo that threatened to escalate political tensions in his home region.

Aryna Sabalenka, another player embroiled in controversy after beating Ukraine’s Mara Kostyuk, is resuming her bid at the French Open while France’s Caroline Garica is also in action.

Cameron Norrie, the last British player in the draw, meets home favorite Lucas Pouille in the evening session, while the British no. 1 meets French opponents for the second straight season.

Caroline Garcia 4-2 Anna Blinkova

Garcia also shows her softer side, laying down a delicate forehand slice that surprises Blinkova as she expects an approach shot to bring her slice short. A forehand throws a few yards and the game belongs to Garcia.

Caroline Garcia 3-2 Anna Blinkova

After a quick stroll through the Roland-Garros complex, it’s on to Philippe-Chatrier where a growing crowd enjoys the early afternoon start of France’s Caroline Garcia. The fifth-seeded player survived a brutal first-round match with Wang Xiyu earlier in the week that saw two powerful forwards go through three sets in a hard-fought battle, but her serve and forehand strength earned her an early break against Russia’s Anna Blinkova.

Stefanos Tsitsipas reaches third round in straight sets (6-3, 7-6, 6-2)

Solid and stable from Stefanos Tsitsipas, and the fifth seed avoids a possible banana peel without even the slightest blip. He needs to raise his level in the upcoming games but the Greek goes through.

Next come Diego Schwartzman or Nuno Borges.

Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6, 5-1 Roberto Carballes Baena

Next on the court, Simonne-Mathieu is an intriguing little number between Stan Wawrinka and Thanasi Kokkinakis. The 38-year-old survived a stern five-set throw against Albert Ramos-Vinolas in the first round and things are unlikely to get much easier for the 2015 champions as Kokkinakis appears to be in fine form against Dan Evans on Sunday.

Caroline Garcia and Anna Blinkova, who are all serving so far, are already pounding on Philippe-Chatrier.

Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6, 4-1 Roberto Carballes Baena

Roberto Carballes Baena is on the field in the third set while Tsitsipas is unable to hook a deep hook back onto the field after the Spaniard put in some good footwork to put himself in the point-winning position.

Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6, 4-0 Roberto Carballes Baena

New balls for the great Greek. He likes the feel of the bright yellow fuzz, which guarantees a quick hold when the music clock ticks down to two hours.

Storm Hunter’s tournament has ended and she lost to Elina Svitolina, who looked very good in the first set. 6-2, 3-6, 1-6 – the Ukrainian is through to the third round and could pose a threat to either France’s Caroline Garcia or Russia’s Anna Blinkova. Fifth-seeded Garcia would make for a more exciting encounter, but you suspect the game would draw even more attention if Blinkova advances.

Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6, 3-0 Roberto Carballes Baena

This is Stefanos Tsitsipas’ best tennis of the game so far, a hint of a smile on his lips as he secures another break point with a nifty forehand.

A backhand lob lands just wide to squander the chance, but a skillful cross-volley and Tsitsipas starts galloping towards the third round.

Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-3, 7-6, 1-0 Roberto Carballes Baena

What a way to break! That’s a great return winner from Tsitsipas, who extends a right hand and somehow snaps his wrist through the ball at full extension to parry a wide serve from Roberto Carballe’s Baena. The Spaniard is hit across the field and Tsitsipas concedes the first blood in the third round.

And a big surprise on Court 14 – former winner Jelena Ostapenko is OUT in the second round! A great performance from Peyton Stearns, who is through to the third round in his Roland Garros debut, beating the 17th seed Latvia, who appeared to be back in form on clay. Daria Kasatkina or Markéta Vondroušová, two players who have already gone into depth with the French, will be their prize, but it’s a significant win for the second-year professional.
