How to Connect Your Chromebook to a TV
Chromebooks are portable devices that don’t typically have large screens. However, you can want from time to time a large screen in which it is convenient to share the screen with a TV. We’ll show you how.
There are two ways to connect a Chromebook to a TV – physically and wirelessly. We explain how both work and the pros and cons of each option. Let’s start.

Connect your Chromebook to a TV via HDMI
The physical method has one major requirement – an HMDI connector. HDMI ports aren’t very common on Chromebooks since many of them are very thin and light. However, if your device has an HDMI port, you have options.
To get started, simply connect an HDMI cable between the port on your Chromebook and the HDMI port on your TV.
Make sure your TV has the same input as the HDMI port you just used. Now you can turn on your Chromebook and click the clock on the taskbar to find the Settings shortcut.
Next, go to the Device section.
Now let’s go to the “Ads” section.
Check the Mirror internal display box. This ensures that the TV shows the same as your Chromebook display.
The downside to this method is that you must have the Chromebook within physical distance of the TV for the cable to connect. That also means you need a way to control the Chromebook when it can’t be near where you’re seated. The good thing, though, is that you don’t experience any lag and the quality is crisp.
Connect your Chromebook to a TV wirelessly
If you don’t want to mess with physical cables, you can wirelessly share your screen with a Chromecast-enabled TV. This can be a Google TV, Android TV or a television with a Chromecast dongle.
This feature is actually not exclusive to Chromebooks, but is part of the Chrome browser. Open the browser on your Chromebook and select the three dot menu icon in the top right.
Now select “Cast” from the menu.
From the Casting menu, click the Sources dropdown menu and select Cast Desktop.
Select the device you want to mirror your screen to.
Your screen will now appear on the Chromecast-enabled display. The advantage of this method is that you can do it from anywhere in your home and control the screen without being tied to a TV. The only downside is that you will notice a little lag and a bit lower quality.
Mirroring your screen to a TV is a useful thing. Now you have two (maybe) ways to do this with a Chromebook!
