How to prepare for the Genshin Impact 3.0 update
Genshin ImpactThe Sumeru update of is coming. The massive 3.0 patch, releasing on the evening of August 23rd, will add a new region, a new grass-based elemental power called Dendro, and cute new characters. The already huge open world of the game is getting even bigger. And there’s plenty to do leading up to it, including story quests, mainline quests, character creation, and exploring Teyvat.
While there’s an overwhelming amount of content to analyze, we want to make it a little easier to prepare for the big update. So we’ve created a list of ways to help players prepare. This advice is aimed at people of different skill levels, but is most helpful for people who haven’t maxed it out yet and have 100% completed all previous content.
This list isn’t a one-size-fits-all, but rather a starting point to get some ideas and serve as a reminder of some potential tasks you may need to complete before the patch launches. Also, we’re not going to tell you to save your Primogems as you always save them for the next character you want, but we have our own guide explaining how to earn them if you want a good refresher.
Complete the current Archon quests
This might seem obvious, but make sure you complete all main quests before 3.0 launches next week. You must complete the Inazuma-related Archon main quest that ends with “Act 3: Omnipresence Over Mortals.” In addition to this Archon quest, you must also complete the intermediate quests in the Abyss, “Requiem of the Echoing Depths” with Dainsleif, and the quest “Dangerous Trail” with Xiao. Shenhe also has an intermediate quest that you may have completed before completing Inazuma’s story content, but you should complete it if you haven’t. (See our guides for help completing these quests.) There’s a decent amount of nitpicking.
The easiest way to make sure you’re ready for 3.0 is to go to your Quests screen, go to the tab labeled Archon Quests, and make sure it’s completely empty. When the new patch is released, you will know that the first Sumeru main quest is ready when you see a prompt to start “Act 1: Through Smokey Mists and Dark Forests”, the name of the first act of the new Archon questline.
Complete various story content
We don’t really know who will appear in the new story arcs besides Sumeru characters like Collei, Tighnari and Dori. As it has happened in previous quests, it is possible that new limited time events or other quests will bring back characters from past regions.
To be prepared for this possibility, you should clean up your quest log as much as possible. Prioritize quests that use playable characters so that when they appear, you haven’t caught Zhongli, Amber, or another character in an ancient quest that you technically started but forgot. This way you don’t get the cursed reminder window saying you can’t continue because your character is doing something else.
Craft portable waypoints for easier exploration
If, like me, you’ve been neglecting your reputation levels in the various regions, I highly recommend going back and paying the commissions and bounties required to increase your reputation level in each city. In particular, I would focus on getting Mondstadt to at least level 6. In this way you can get the recipe for crafting portable waypoints that help in exploration. If you find a high altitude point that you want to use as a return point to fly from place to place, you can put a waypoint down wherever you like.
Build that stamina
If you haven’t already, consider upgrading the Statues of the Seven in each region by collecting the regional collectible. By collecting Anemoculus, Geoculus, and Electroculus and worshiping the statues, you can improve your stamina, making it easier to explore Sumeru by increasing the time you can climb and how long you can run. I find these items relaxing to collect and it gives me an excuse to grab chests while running around. I’d recommend starting with Mondstadt as there’s only 65 total Anemoculus to collect and it gives you a good stamina boost.
Fill up with resin
This is pretty simple: keep some Fragile Resin in stock or craft some Condensed Resin so you can run new bosses and domains many times. This is especially true if you have a character that you desire and want to build later, as you’ll want to run bosses enough to get Ascension materials.
Honestly? Take a break when you can
Don’t sweat the details as you complete everything. I noticed that many members of the community spoke to you about burnout genshin and say they didn’t even have the energy to finish the last set of event quests in the Golden Apple Archipelago or struggled to finish them and that’s fine! There has been, and likely will continue to be, a lot of content. It can be refreshing to take a break when the game feels more like a chore than something you actually enjoy.
This guide is here to give you ideas on what to do, but it doesn’t have to be a comprehensive to-do list. Focus your efforts on the type of game you enjoy the most – explore more if you enjoy exploring, build some pyro characters if you enjoy grinding domains and bosses, but most importantly, do what makes you happy in the game. You don’t have to strain to enjoy the new story arcs and new regions when they come!
