UFC 278: Kamaru Usman vs. Leon Edwards 2 weigh-in results

There will be a rematch on August 20 at UFC 277 that has been in the works for seven years. This time it’s for the UFC welterweight title. Kamaru Usman will defend his belt against Leon Edwards at Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City.

Usman made his MMA debut in 2012. After losing the second fight of his pro career, Usman has won 19 straight. He beat Tyron Woodley for the UFC welterweight title in 2019. Usman has defended the belt five times. The Nigerian Nightmare beat Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal twice and defeated Gilbert Burns via TKO.

Usman’s last fight was a unanimous decision win over Covington in November. He has since been recovering from hand surgery.

Edwards made his professional debut in 2011. He won the BAMMA welterweight title before joining the UFC in 2014. After losing his first fight for promotion, Edwards went down 11-1 with a no-contest. “Rocky” lost to Usman in 2015. Since then he has had an impressive streak, beating the likes of Vicente Luque, Bryan Barberena, Donald Cerrone and Rafael dos Anjos.

After a hiatus in 2020 and early 2021 due to canceled fights and the COVID-19 pandemic, Edwards returned in March 2021 and faced Belal Muhammad. The fight was ruled a no contest after Muhammad was unable to continue after an eye poke. Edwards last fought in June 2021, beating Nate Diaz at UFC 263.
