Chelsea vs Manchester United Live Analysis! – By Joe Prince-Wright at Stamford Bridge

TORL! Casemiro. I do not believe it. What a headline. It hits the post, jumps over the line and Kepa tries to keep it out. But it went in. Sensational drama.

TORL! Chelsea lead 1-0 as Jorginho comes home. McTominay with the support…

PENALTY FOR CHELSEA! McTominay brings Broja down. What a ridiculous decision.

Armando Broja and Chukwuemeka for Sterling and Loftus-Cheek. Last dice roll for Chelsea.

CROSSBAR! Trevoh Chalobah goes to the top of the bar while towering over Fred.

Chelsea had the better game in the second half. The ball just didn’t fall in the right areas to Raheem Sterling a few times. United try to get back into this game but Chelsea dominate.

Raphael Varane is out with a knee injury. He was down for a while and appeared to be in tears, but then refused to carry him off the stretcher and walked around the pitch fairly easily. His reaction said a lot. He reacted like someone who thinks they won’t be going to the World Cup because of an injury.

Fred plays for Jadon Sancho. Bruno Fernandes is now out on the left.

Here at Chelsea it’s the second half. Fred receives instructions from Erik ten Hag as United are set to make an early move. He channels his inner Graham Potter.

Chelsea’s young American goalkeeper Gabriel ‘Gaga’ Slonina is here at Stamford Bridge. He chatted with Peter Schmeichel at half-time and stopped by on a trip to London. Chelsea signed him in the summer and he was loaned back to the Chicago Fire.

HALFTIME: Chelsea 0:0 Manchester United – Not a classic 45 minutes, but tactically very fascinating.

CHANCE! Huge chance for Manchester United missed by Antony. He’s played through cleanly and Thiago Silva does just enough to put him off as Antony drills the effort wide. He can not believe it. The United bench here at Stamford Bridge is just as stunned.

CHANCE! Another great opportunity for Chelsea as Mount Sterling finds and his touch with Aubameyang is too strong. Chelsea now much more dangerous.

CLOSE! The sub has already had an effect. Kovacic finds Sterling and the loose ball is swept towards goal by Aubameyang but he goes just wide.

Kovacic comes on for Chelsea. 35 minutes in. This is required. Chelsea has no control. Cucurella off. Chelsea have moved up to a back four with the trio of Kovacic, Jorginho and Loftus-Cheek in midfield. Fascinating. Potter didn’t like what he saw.

SAVE UP! Great stopover from Kepa. Marcus Rashford charged for goal but his powerful shot over the goal is pushed away.

At the moment everything is united…

Everything has calmed down a bit now. So far only three shots in total. Slow burner.

Casemiro and Eriksen play some nice passes to get United out of midfield. They exude class and experience.

On the other end a great slide release from Varane with Aubameyang lurking. This opens now. nice stuff

SAVE UP! Kepa with a good stop below as Antony curls a try from the edge of the box. United look dangerous up front.

It’s like a chess game. Erik ten Hag and Graham Potter both try to lure the other out.

Antony clattered past Cucurella and the Brazilian wasn’t too thrilled about it. We’re sitting right behind the bench here and Erik ten Hag demands more from his team. There is a lot of gesturing.

“Like London, your city is blue!” Chelsea fans sing to Manchester United. Great banter.

KICKING OFF: We’re on our way here at the bridge! A clash of new managers and a break in style between two Premier League giants. This is supposed to be epic.

Teams are warming up here at the bridge and Bruno Fernandes is having a good time hitting balls into the net. Casemiro also just scored a nice header. At the other end, Christian Pulisic punches Broja in the head after screwing up the keppy-ups.

There is optimism around the Manchester United camp here in west London. Cristiano Ronaldo ridicule aside, they were very good against Spurs midweek. Can they match that intensity again?

Team news is here! Four changes for Chelsea with Chilwell, Sterling, Aubameyang and Thiago Silva all coming in. Looking like Azpilicueta at right full-back, Chilwell at left full-back and Cucurella at left centre-back. United make one change, Eriksen comes on for Fred. United’s bench looks pretty weak…

Welcome to Stamford Bridge! It’s nice and warm for the end of October here. And that rivalry has been very heated over the years. Chelsea are unbeaten under Graham Potter and Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United also appear to be a team that believes in what they are doing. Obviously there’s no Cristiano Ronaldo today given his midweek antics, but there are still so many superstars who will shine.

Important storylines

The Blues are much better defensively and shift through the gears in attack. Potter has had to deal with injuries to Fofana, Kante, Gallagher and James but Chelsea’s squad is strong and it looks like they will easily finish in the top four and challenge for trophies. Going forward, they are now more dangerous as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mason Mount and Raheem Sterling equalize and Havertz, Broja and Pulisic are also rotated. However, Chelsea have not won any of their last nine Premier League games against Manchester United as the Red Devils have become a bogeyman for the Blues.

As for Manchester United, another Cristiano Ronaldo saga has dominated the last few days as he was eliminated early against Tottenham after being an unused substitute and won’t feature in the squad against Chelsea. On the pitch, Erik ten Hag’s side were excellent in their home win against Spurs and they have now won six of their ten games this season and there is a real cohesion in this squad.

In-form players to watch

Mason Mount has been in good form for Chelsea as he scored twice at Villa last weekend and is looking really good as the game progresses. Kepa Arrizabalaga kept five straight clean sheets in all competitions and made some excellent saves against Villa and Brentford while keeping Edouard Mendy out of the team. As for United, Bruno Fernandes is returning to his peak form, while Casemiro has added extra steel in midfield and Antony delivers real quality in every game.

Chelsea team news, injuries, line-up

Wesley Fofana, Reece James and N’Golo Kante are long-term absentees at Chelsea through injury, while Conor Gallagher was substituted off through illness in the first half of the midweek draw at Brentford but is available for this clash. It’ll be fascinating to see what formation and staff Potter uses as he’s messed things up in pretty much every single game. Aubameyang, Sterling and Mount all start in attack while Thiago Silva comes in at central defense and Ben Chilwell starts.

Manchester United team news, injuries, line-up

Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature for United following his midweek actions, while Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial are recovering but will not be ready. Donny van de Beek, Brandon Williams, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Axel Tuanzebe stay out. After a busy week, Erik ten Hag only makes one change: Christian Eriksen replaces Fred in central midfield.
