The champion will go into this fight with no known face. Former champion Khabib Numagomedov will not be in his corner for the fight as he seeks to move away from MMA. However, they made a game plan for the Volkanovski fight ahead of Khabib’s absence.
Volkanovski, the UFC Featherweight Champion, has won all 12 fights in the UFC. He beat Max Holloway for the title in 2019 and has defended the belt four times. He now wants to challenge himself in the lightweight class.

On the ground, Makhachev is a dangerous fighter. Volkanovski is a powerful striker. Something has to be given. The latter broke down how he thinks the fight will go, telling The AllStar his skills can outlast Makhachev’s offensive skills.
“I think it’s going to be more of a standup fight,” Volkanovski said of MMA News. “Obviously with my movement and all that, he’s going to shoot earlier… he’s going to be a little bit uncomfortable with the timing that I have and all that stuff…
“The first round will be a bit more of a fight I think with clinches and all that stuff. Maybe a little more chaotic. And then the second lap, I think it’s going to be more on his feet and I’m going to put my hands on him… but I’m preparing for five laps and bad positions… and so I feel like I’m going to get the finish .”
