Thousands Take Part In National Sport Day Celebrations
Doha: The 12th edition of the National Sports Day (NSD) was celebrated across the country yesterday with the participation of state and private entities.
Thousands of citizens and residents, young and old, gathered at various locations including Katara, Aspire Zone, Education City, MIA Park, Lusail Boulevard, among others, to mark the day with a renewed commitment to a healthy lifestyle through sport and physical Exercise to celebrate fitness.
Father Amir HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani participated in the activities of the National Sports Day held under the theme “Choice Is Yours”. His Highness practiced walking in the Souq Waqif area. HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairman of the Qatar Foundation, led the Walk For a Cause walkathon held in Education City for the benefit of Turkiye and Syria.
Sports Day is viewed as an opportunity to bring communities closer together through sports based on team building, inclusion, unity, participation, fitness and health principles.
As a participant in the NSD, HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, spokesman for the Shura Council, reiterated that the state’s support for sport and encouraging all sections of society to practice it is an integral part of its interest in human development, like it set in the Qatar National Vision is 2030.

Prime Minister and Interior Minister HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani attended a number of National Sports Day (NSD) activities. His Excellency participated in the children’s activities of the Shafallah Center for the Disabled, the Al-Noor Center for the Blind and the Dreama Orphanage Care Center.
In its 12th edition, in the early hours of the morning, the NSD saw broad participation from all parts of society. The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) organized various activities along the waterfront and on the beach of Katara for the occasion, with the participation of several ministries, state and private agencies and institutions.
Some of the most prominent entities attending these events included the Qatar Football Association (QFA) in association with Qatar Shell, the Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee, Hamad Medical Corporation, the Al Reyada Girls Center of the Ministry of Sport and Youth, the Doha Bank and Qatar Insurance Company.
The Ministry of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation and Naufar Center also organized a march on National Sports Day at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City yesterday. On this occasion, many sports, entertainment and awareness-raising activities were carried out for employees and their families. In celebration of the NSD, the Ministry of Transport and transport sector agencies participated in exciting sporting and recreational events for employees and family members.
In addition, the Department of Labor organized various events and activities to celebrate the day at Aspire Park, which were attended by Department employees, their families and the general public. The Aspire Zone hosted many events at Aspire Park, including volleyball and soccer competitions, taekwondo and tae boxing performances and classes, and several other activities.
