LIV Golf Mexico purse, payout breakdown: How much prize money will the winner make?

Even the worst golfer in the field at the opening event of LIV Golf 2023 in Mayakoba, Mexico will walk away with a nice payday.

In fact, that’s part of the draw for the fledgling tour, whose massive payouts were lucrative enough to attract some of the PGA Tour’s top talent to the Saudi-backed series. And that’s not even counting the event’s top golfers.

Just last season, former FedEx Cup champion Dustin Johnson won the inaugural LIV Golf Tour title, leading in both points and overall earnings: a whopping $35.6 million. For comparison, Scottie Scheffler set the official PGA Tour winnings record of $13.17 million.

Saudi investors have not shied away from pumping money into the fledgling golf tour. Not only has LIV increased the number of events this season (from eight in 2022 to 14 in 2023), but also 11 international series events, each with $5 million in prize money and a staggering $405 million in total earnings included for the 2023 season.

The fun starts in earnest at Mexico’s El Camaleón Mayakoba Golf Course. Here’s how much the field can expect at the inaugural event of the 2023 LIV golf schedule, including individual and team wins:

Like last year, LIV Golf Events a $25 million purseof which $20 million is dedicated to individual golfers and the remaining $5 million to golfers based on the top three teams overall.

The number of LIV events will also increase from eight to 14 events in 2023.

How much does the winner get?

The winner of this weekend’s event in Mayakoba, Mexico will earn no less than 4 million dollars as the individual winner of the event. The same applies to all other 13 events this season.

Also, the winning team will win in Mexico 3 million dollars, with the winnings being split fourfold among the members of the winning team. Each member of the winning team will win $750,000 each. The second-place team will earn $1.5 million spread over four ($375,000 each), while the third-place team will earn $500,000 ($4) ($125,000).

If the top rated golfer is also on the winning team of a LIV golf event, they will receive $4.75 million in prize money, bonuses not included. The golfer with the lowest rating wins $120,000 just for playing a LIV event.
