What Will Spring and Summer Weather Be Like for Chicago? The Latest Predictions – NBC Chicago

Monday marks the official start of spring in Chicago, and with many looking forward to warmer months, what can they expect?

Is it getting hotter than normal? weather than normal?

According to the long-term forecasts from the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center, April, May, and June will have equal odds of above or below average temperatures, except for some southern parts of the area and northwestern Indiana “above,” it’s the precipitation, which should arouse interest.

Above-average rainfall is expected throughout the region during these months.

Last month, the Old Farmer’s Almanac released a similar forecast for spring 2023, stating, “Spring overall has the potential to be a warmer-than-normal period for much of the United States.”

It notes that there may be some “pocket of cooler air” in some parts of the US, but the Midwest is not among those places and is expected to “trend toward the milder side.”

As for rain, the Almanac also predicts precipitation will be “on the wet side.”

The vernal equinox, or the time when spring officially begins, is scheduled to occur at 4:24 pm CT on Monday.

Although meteorological seasons are typically defined as three-month periods beginning at the beginning of every third month, astronomical seasons are aligned with semiannual equinoxes and solstices.

The vernal and autumnal equinoxes mark the beginning of spring and autumn, while the winter and summer solstices define the astronomical beginning of those seasons.

What about the summer?

The Climate Prediction Center shows the region is projected to have temperatures “above” average, with continued chances for above-average precipitation in July.

Similarly, the Farmer’s Almanac predicts warm to hot and humid summer conditions for all of Illinois this year.

“Across a swath covering portions of the Rockies, Plains, Midwest and east to the mid-Atlantic coast, there will be occasional heavy rainfall, primarily from showers and large thunderstorms,” ​​the forecast reads.

Still, many meteorologists warn against such far-off forecasts as they can be unreliable.

For now, it looks like the Chicago area will start spring in typical fashion: with milder temperatures and wet conditions possible for several days this week.

Skies are expected to be mostly cloudy on Monday, with highs nearing 50 degrees. Expect mid-week rainfall from there, with highs approaching the mid-50s.
