Following the announcement of the strategic partnership between IIS and MJA, which aims to create a structured athlete development path for the sport of judo in the state and to help Indian judokas succeed on a global scale, the IIS-Sangai Cup will be the first step towards nurturing and identifying new talent from the region.
Speaking of the competition, Rushdee Warley, CEO of the Inspire Institute of Sport said, “The IIS-Sangai Cup is the first step toward building a robust ecosystem for the judo program. The Northeast has always been the hotbed of athletic talent for all sports, especially judo. The tournament will help us delve deeper into the sea of talent that Manipur and the wider region has to offer. In addition, we will send some of our best scouts to the tournament to analyze and understand the skills of these judokas, while incorporating them into our joint judo program.”

“In our quest to advance judo as an emerging sport from grassroots football to elite training, the IIS-Sangai Cup will play an important role. Although the tournament is just the beginning of greater things to come, it will surely attract more judokas from the area to sign up and be part of the community judo program. IIS has set out a perfect roadmap for the advancement of raw talent in the state of Manipur and we are working towards that goal together. We look forward to a successful tournament,” added Soibam Indrakumar Secretary General MJA,
