Haryana police have arrested a woman allegedly harboring fugitive Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh and his associate Papalpreet Singh at their home in Kurukshetra district, while Punjab police apprehended a gunman of the pro-Khalistan preacher has. But the arrest by Haryana police of Baljit Kaur, a resident of the Shahabad area, suggests that Amritpal may have fled Punjab.

“We caught the woman, Baljit Kaur, who was harboring Amritpal and his associate Papalpreet Singh at their home in Shahabad on Sunday. The woman was handed over to Punjab Police,” Kurukshetra Police Superintendent Surinder Singh Bhoria was quoted as saying by PTI news agency.

Gill used to show off guns in pictures and videos on social media without having a gun license. An FIR against him was registered under IPC Section 188 (Disobedience to the Duly Promulgated Order of a Public Official), the DSP added.

The investigation has revealed that Gill was also implicated in the Ajnala incident and Ajnala police will take action against him separately, PTI reported, citing officials.

Police said they recovered the motorbike near a canal in Jalandhar and are trying to grab the Khalistan sympathizer.

The state government had suspended mobile internet and SMS services in parts of Punjab after police crackdown. While restrictions have been gradually lifted in most areas such as Moga, Sangrur, Ajnala Subdivision and Mohali, restrictions are still in place in some other areas.

On Thursday, the state Interior Ministry said curbs in Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts had been extended until noon on Friday “in the interests of public safety, to prevent any incitement to violence and any disturbance of peace and public order”.
