Elizabeth Homes prison latest: Theranos founder to report to Texas lock-up to begin 11-month sentence
Elizabeth Holmes was ordered to report to prison on May 30
Elizabeth Holmes is due to report to prison this week to start her 11-year sentence for the blood test fraud at the heart of her startup Theranos.
In early May, a federal appeals court denied her request to be released from prison while she seeks to overturn her January 2022 conviction on four counts of fraud and conspiracy.
Holmes had asked a federal judge to allow her to stay free through Memorial Day weekend before turning herself in to authorities on May 30.
A reprieve was granted to give Holmes time to work out several issues, including childcare for her one-year-old son William and three-month-old daughter Invicta. Holmes was originally ordered to begin her April 27 sentence.
The father of both children is William “Billy” Evans, whom she met after splitting from her former love and business partner Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, who was serving a nearly 13-year sentence in Southern California last month.
Balwani was convicted on 12 counts of fraud and conspiracy he committed as Theranos’ chief operating officer.
Holmes is expected to be incarcerated in Bryan, Texas, about 100 miles (160 km) northwest of her hometown of Houston.

Court denies Elizabeth Holmes’ request not to be imprisoned pending appeal
Disgraced founder of Theranos, Elizabeth Holmes, has lost her attempt to avoid jail again while appealing her conviction for fraud linked to a blood test scam that has harassed investors.
In a one-sided ruling Tuesday, the US Circuit Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled that Holmes’ appeal did not state that she received a reduced sentence or had her conviction overturned as a result of errors made during her trial.

When Holmes is sent to prison for fraud, questions remain about her motives
As Elizabeth Holmes prepares to appear in jail next week, the criminal case that exposed the blood test scam at the heart of her Theranos startup is entering its final phase.
The 11-year sentence is compensation for the wide-eyed woman who broke the “tech bro” culture and became one of Silicon Valley’s most famous entrepreneurs, only to be exposed as a con artist. Over time, Holmes has come to symbolize the shameless hyperbole that often pervades startup culture.
But questions still linger about her true intentions — so many that even the federal judge presiding over her trial seemed puzzled. And Holmes’ defense attorneys continue to question whether the punishment fits the crime.
