Champions crowned, records broken in exciting sporting weekend
It was a record weekend around the world as Al Ahly and Manchester City were crowned new African and European champions respectively.
In other sports, South African Tete Dijana won the Comrades Marathon and successfully set a new world record, while Gerda Steyn broke the record to become the women’s marathon champion.
Abroad, Novak Djokovic was named the most successful male tennis player after his third win at Roland Garros.

Percy Tau and Al Ahly win the 11th Champions League
Egyptian soccer giants Al Ahly defeated defending champions Wydad Athletic Club 3-2 on aggregate in Sunday’s CAF Champions League final at the Stade Mohammed V in Morocco.
Ahly won a record eleventh Champions League title, while star player Tau became the first South African to win the prestigious trophy twice, having previously won it with the Mamelodi Sundowns in 2016.

Man City and Pep win the elusive treble
Pep Guardiola will go down in history as one of football’s finest managers, having guided Manchester City to their first European title and becoming only the second English side after Manchester United to win a treble.
City defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in a stunning UEFA Champions League final, with Rodir’s goal being enough to give Citizens a historic victory.

Dijana, Steyn stamp authority at the Comrades Marathon
South African runners Dijana and Steyn made history in the world-famous ultramarathon as they both dominated the race to set new record results on Sunday.
Dijana finished the race in 5:14:1, beating David Gatebe’s 2019 record of 5:18:19. For the women, Steyn set a record of 5:44.54.

Djokovic becomes the greatest male player of all time
Serbia international Djokovic is the most successful male tennis player of all time after beating Casper Ruud 7-6(1) 6-3 7-5 in the Roland Garros final in Paris, France.
Djokovic claimed his third Roland Garros and 23rd Grand Slam title, overtaking Rafael Nadal, who has 22 Grand Slam titles.
