Batman: Arkham Trilogy – The Latest Release to Follow the Digital-Only Trend
The Summer of Gaming is in full swing with huge showcases like this nintendodirect, where we get massive announcements like Batman: Arkham Trilogy let go Nintendo Switch digital. However, there is also a strange physical release. You may be wondering how simple modules will contain these huge games. Well the truth is that is not the case.
The Batman: Arkham Games are among the most critically acclaimed video games based on comics. The story goes back to 2009, with the release of Batman: Arkham Asylum, Rocksteady Studios took the world by storm with their deep, haunting, and downright magnificent portrayal of the Dark Knight. And now the three main games of the series are to be published on the Nintendo Switch.

The physical release of Batman: Arkham Trilogy
Instead of releasing all the games on a single cartridge or even on separate cartridges, they are split up. One game on physical cartridge, the rest is included as downloadable content. Batman: Arkham Asylum is on the cartridge while Arkham City And Arkham Knight are both included as codes that you can use to download the games Nintendo eShop.
The really strange thing about this release is that even if you want to play the digital games, you have to insert the cartridge. Let’s say you want to play Arkham City. Well, first you need to paste Arkham Asylumthen you can play Arkham City (Source: The WB FAQ book page).

As a matter of fact, Batman: Arkham Trilogy is not the first publication to try such an approach. It’s becoming more common for game publishers to release their products entirely digitally, so they don’t have to worry about the cost of making physical copies.
The rising trend of purely digital publications
Video games are becoming increasingly expensive to produce. Most publishers choose to price their AAA titles at $70 to counter the increase in these costs. Some are trying a purely digital approach to their games. This lowers the cost of producing physical copies and allows publishers and developers to stay focused on their goal of making a great game.

Batman: Arkham Trilogy will be released digitally as expected, but even the physical release relies on digital codes. Other games such as Fourteen days And overwatch, also released physically without a cartridge. They are simply supplied with digital codes. Other blockbuster titles include the one yet to be released Alan Wake IIwhich is only released digitally.
A release similar to Batman: Arkham Trilogy Is Assassin’s Creed Revelationsthat came with the original Assassin’s Creed, that was only included on a digital code and could only be played during revelations was added to the console. It turns out that publishers have been trying to get the formula right for quite some time.
It seems clear to many gamers that publishers are trying to move to purely digital releases. Only time will tell if this steers the gaming industry in the right direction. Many, including myself, still love physical releases and clearly prefer them to digital releases. But perhaps this all-digital approach is for the best, especially in today’s media landscape.
