Hollywoodbets Durban July – The Connections’ Views
A R20 million pick 6 is planned for the record-breaking July Hollywoodbets race in Durban on Saturday. With TAB betting already open and a huge Hollywoodbets Punters Challenge prize up for grabs, there is unprecedented interest in the big race.

- Watch it again: “Weight is a question. I would have liked to see him in the race at around 55, but he’s on the rise. “I think he’s the best three-year-old in the country,” Michael Roberts.
- Winchester Villa: “He absolutely flies at home. He should be right for this race. With a good pull and a nice light canter weight on his back, I think he’s a very, very strong runner. “I wouldn’t discount him on any of your bets,” James Crawford.
- Safe crossing: “Anyway, he’s definitely a runner by the weights and by the ratings,” Mike de Kock.
- Without question: “I was very impressed by this canter (June 23, 2023). “This horse does everything right,” Justin Snaith. “I am very happy that Trip Of Fortune has been added and got it back to where it should be. I’m getting my full 4 pounds now. “The draw… it might be a bit bumpy but he’s a big boy,” Richard Fourie.
- son of Raj: “The way he won the derby, he must have a huge chance because I have no weight and I’m very well drawn,” Muzi Yeni.
12. Pacaya: “We have always believed that he is the best disabled horse in South Africa. “He’s peaking and I just have to tone him down a bit and if I can get that right, the right mix, he’s a horse that’s going to be a great runner,” Justin Snaith.
- Rain in Holland: “56.5 is a big weight for a filly and she bred 17. You know that 17 can keep you out of trouble, too. “I’m hoping for a big run,” Sean Tarry.
- Dave the King: “I am very, very happy with today’s work (June 23, 2023). He’s starting to calm down and is just going in the right direction. “He’s a runner, especially now that the weights are down a bit,” Craig Zackey. “For me, the 3-year-olds in Cape stand out. He is from Cape Town. “I wouldn’t have a problem having him up front (in terms of pace)”, Mike de Kock.
- rascal: “I was very, very happy with his training. He did it in a good time and comfortably. He got through it just fine. “It’s not ideal (tie 15) and we’re going to need a bit of luck I’m sure,” said Vaughan Marshall.
- do it again: “I think I had an instant connection as soon as I slipped into the saddle. “He did a tremendous gallop,” Gavin Lerena. “I’m just as confident that he’ll go into this race as any other race I’ll contest with him. “Beautifully weighted and a 6 draw,” Justin Snaith.
- Port Manzano: “For a two-time Group 1 winner I think he’s in very good shape and in the form of his life. The jury is still out on whether he likes Hollywoodbets Greyville,” said Keagan de Melo.
- pomp and power: “18 draw, we’re out. I’m not worried about the draw at all. If he had drawn 1, I would have said that you can now “guess” your odds. But complete luck. How is he supposed to keep up with the yelling and shouting of the crowd? “We’ll do whatever we can,” Justin Snaith.
- Bless my stars: “Obviously a big challenge in this area. She had really good preparation. “She’s got a reasonably good move and at that weight who knows,” Sean Tarry.
3. Time flies by: “She’s gotten quite a big increase in performance since her last run. “She’s proven to be a filly that can keep up with the big horses,” says James Crawford.
- Billy Bowlegs: “I think we have more than just a runner, we have a horse with a chance. He comes at just the right time. “With 53.5 and draw 5, we’re pretty excited,” says Alec Laird.
- Silver darling: “I don’t know if the fillies are good enough and in the form of Rain In Holland and Time Flies. “I do think the fillies are going to have a hard time competing against the older horses they’re adding weight to,” Justin Snaith.
- lucky trip: “Obviously a question mark over the distance as he has never made this journey before and is at his peak weight. He is not well drawn at 16 but is picked up to make the trip. “If he can get away with it, it’ll be on this track,” says Candice Bass-Robinson.
- Second base: “I just encourage the public to judge him by his last run. He’s obviously taken the change of stable and environment well and I think he’s a different horse than what he was before,” Robyn Klaasen.
