A gorgeous narrative puzzle game that explores life and death

I don’t know why you say goodbye, I say hello

Over the years we’ve covered more than a few ARTE Experience titles in our gaming roundups, including Homo Machina and Type:Rider. ARTE may be better known for its public cultural television channel, but as its games, developed under the ARTE Experience banner, align with the cultural themes of its television content, we look forward to the upcoming release of the studio’s newest title, How to Say On goodbye With Gamescom kicking off today, we actually got a chance to get our hands on the narrative-based platformer on the show floor. Before How to say Goodbye starts, let’s dive in and see what ARTE Experience has up its sleeve.

ANDROID POLICE VIDEO OF THE DAY

The above gameplay video was captured at the Gamescom 2022 exhibition floor. As you can see, How to say Goodbye offers a refined, minimalist design and opts for a gameplay similar to that of Monument Valley, where you interact with the world to traverse its landscape. ARTE Experience has taken this mechanic even further, since you don’t have direct control over your character, which is certainly an interesting way to approach the puzzle of each stage.

Since How to say Goodbye is a narrative game, the story is important. The protagonist, who has recently turned into a ghost, is very interested in finding out why he got lost in an unknown world full of ghosts, but this situation confuses and scares him. This is where you, the player, come in. It’s up to you to help them escape this spooky world by interacting with the game world. It’s an interesting subject that’s definitely harder than the children’s book-like art would first imply, but that’s what makes this game so intriguing.

Of course, I’m happy to see that ARTE Experience relies heavily on unique, artistic design, something the developer is known for. The developer even revealed on the show floor that as it is a public company, it is the company’s duty to deliver games that the public actually enjoys, hence the fair pricing model ARTE Experience uses in its games. So far I’d say ARTE Experience has confidently reached that mark with previous releases, hence the excitement for How to Say Goodbye, the real reason we decided to pick up this title. It looks cool, and now that we’ve had the chance to play it, we can confirm that the puzzle-based gameplay is worth it too – with a wonderfully satisfying tactile experience on mobile to boot.

How to say Goodbye is expected to land on Android before the end of the year, although we still don’t have a firm date and don’t know the expected prices yet, but if it’s anything like previous titles, monetization will be fair. So if you’re interested in learning more about How to say Goodbye for now, you can check out the press kit or download the demo on Steam to try before the Android version comes out later this year. And if you’re looking for a big screen to play this, you should check out the best tablets for Android so you can fully enjoy the stunning art in How to say Goodbye.
