Adrien Broner vs. Omar Figueroa Jr. date, start time, odds, schedule & card for 2022 boxing fight

Adrien Broner is finally ready for his return to boxing. The former champion takes on Omar Figueroa Jr. on August 20 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

The controversial broner, nicknamed “The Problem” and considered by some pundits to be the next Floyd Mayweather, has not fought since February 2021, in part due to a series of financial and legal issues that derailed his once promising career.

After making his pro debut in 2008, Broner won the 2011 WBO super featherweight title, the 2012 WBC lightweight title, and the 2013 WBA welterweight title.

From that point on, Broner went sideways, losing to Marcos Maidana, Shawn Porter, Mikey Garcia and Manny Pacquiao. After the Pacquiao fight, Broner took a 25-month layoff and focused on rapping.

Though eyes rolled when news broke that Broner was boxing again, the 33-year-old believes he’s ready.

“I am very happy to be back in the ring. It’s been a long camp and I’m ready to fight. It feels great to be back,” Broner said in a press release. “I’ve trained so hard and someone has to pay for it. The goal now is to beat Omar Figueroa Jr. Then I go from there to the drawing board… So I’m a four-division world champion. “Expectations of myself are always high. I know people expect big things from me when I go in the ring. I’m used to that and just focus on getting the win.”

Figueroa, 32, made his pro debut in 2008. A former WBC lightweight champion, Figueroa is on a losing streak. He last fought in May 2021, losing to Abel Ramos. While contemplating his upcoming assignment in Broner, Figueroa has had another fight outside the ring. He has credited Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles with spreading mental health awareness, something he has long struggled with.

“Now that I have my mental health in check and I feel great physically, I feel like it has given me new life,” Figueroa said. “We’ll just have to see how I look and feel in this fight and then we’ll go from there. Before I got my sanity under control, I was fueled by hate and anger and all that negative stuff. Now I’m really sucking it in, making time for my family, being there for my dad, and feeling thankful and grateful for the opportunity to be able to do this again with my family, and at the level that I’m doing. “
