AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 full card results: Bryan Danielson vs. Kazuchika Okada, Omega vs. Ospreay 2 deliver

For the second straight year, the forbidden door was broken down as All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling teamed up for a show for the ages.

There were two games that will stand the test of time on Sunday night’s ticket at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, while the entire event was near-perfect.

The main event featured generational talents Bryan Danielson and Kazuchika Okada. Both are legends in America and Japan. Danielson shocked fans when he released “The Final Countdown,” a song he was familiar with from his Ring of Honor days but hadn’t used in years.

This epic moment was a sign of things to come.

The two switched back and forth, trading moves that roused a Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay-weary crowd to their feet. At one point, Danielson, who suffered from neck problems in the past, “reached” into the ring to distract Okada. In what was a short match compared to most Okada matches, Danielson forced Okada to exit after an innovative LeBell lock with his legs.

It was the first time since 2015 that Okada, the multiple IWGP World Champion, lost to Shinsuke Nakamura by elimination. Will there ever be a rematch?

Prior to this match, Omega and Ospreay bested their match-of-the-year contender at Wrestle Kingdom 17 with a brutal classic. Ospreay, who was badly beaten in January’s NJPW event, was a possessed man. He forced Omega to bleed by banging his head through a table multiple times. Omega retaliated by using the steel steps. It was a damn masterpiece and got better with every devastating move.

Don Callis, Omega’s former boyfriend, tried to interfere several times even when he was thrown out of the fight. He gave Ospreay a screwdriver and told him to use Omega’s One Winged Angel against him. The crowd erupted as Omega retired after moving at one. They were far from finished.

Ospreay eventually defeated Omega with a fearsome version of the Tiger Driver ’91 to become the United States IWGP Champion.

If Omega is sane after all the brutal moves, Part 3 is expected.

The night started with the polarizing CM Punk defeating Satoshi Kojima in the first round of the men’s Owen Hart Cup tournament. Punk was booed in Canada, one of the first places outside of Chicago he has attended since returning.

Orange Cassidy, the Wrestler of the Year leader, defended his AEW International title against Zack Saber Jr., Katsuyori Shibata and Daniel Garcia. A highlight was Garcia doing a lot of “sports entertainment” in a match with great wrestlers.

Cassidy’s reign lasts over 250 days. Can someone dethrone him?

There was tension in The Elite vs. The Blackpool Combat Club 10-man tag team match as different stories came into play. Eddie Kingston continued his rivalry with Claudio Castagnoli while at odds over the fight with his best friend Jon Moxley.

The Elite along with Tomohiro Ishii and Kingston defeated the BCC, Konosuke Takeshita and Shota Umino. The rivalry between the factions is far from over and there is a chance it will all come to a head in a Blood and Guts match.

Also on the main card: MJF def. Hiroshi Tanahashi and retained the AEW World Title, Toni Storm def. Willow Nightingale and retained the AEW Women’s World Title, and Sting, Darby Allin and Tetsuya Naito def. Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara and Minoru Suzuki.

Eventually, “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry turned around after losing to IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA. Perry attacked HOOK after the match, which shocked and angered HOOK’s father, Taz. Perry focuses on HOOK’s FTW title.
