Andy Reid’s State Farm commercial: How coach showed comedic chops in Patrick Mahomes spot

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes were a match made in soccer heaven — and maybe commercial heaven, too.

The Chiefs head coach is one of the most successful and colorful coaches in NFL history. With the opportunity to win a second championship ring at Super Bowl 57, there’s no doubt Reid has conquered the NFL world. Maybe he also wants to conquer the subway.

In 2022, Reid starred in a commercial alongside his franchise QB when they teamed up to be spokespersons for State Farm insurance. Mahomes, who has been State Farm’s lead NFL spokesman in recent years, has been pushing for his coach to appear on the small screen.

The insurance company has hired all sorts of speakers over the years. Mahomes and Reid joined Aaron Rodgers, Chris Paul, James Harden and others in trying to spread the good word of the Rodgers Rate, Patrick Price and the Parker Promo.

When the Chiefs take the field at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. on Sunday, they may have a small home advantage thanks to Reid and Mahomes – and Patrick Price. Here’s the hilarious ad that has people seeing Reid through a different lens:

Andy Reid’s State Farm commercial

In 2022, Andy Reid confessed to drawing mustaches on the faces of sleeping players. State Farm’s Jake said that was a bit too much information.

The hilarious ad put “Big Red” in a new light. You can watch it here:

Mahomes, who urged Reid to do the commercial, said the coach was a “natural.”

“He’s a natural at stuff like that, whenever he shows his personality and kind of relaxes,” Mahomes said. “You don’t see that ‘mean’ coach Reid, you see how much personality he has and I think it’s probably my best commercial yet and I think he kind of stole the show and was kind of the lead.”

The Chiefs coach spoke about his involvement in the commercial last year and said it was pushed by Mahomes.

“Pat asked if I would do it with him and I told him, ‘I’m not very good at this stuff,’ like you know how I do it [press conferences], but listen, it was a funny thing,” Reid said at a news conference. “It’s quite interesting. There are great people there. They obviously reached out and talked to me about it and knew I wasn’t really comfortable with things like that, but they made it as comfortable as possible.”

Whether Reid actually draws mustaches on faces is unclear, but none would be as impressive as the lip warmer he wears.
