Antonio Conte contract, salary with Tottenham Hotspur: Latest news on extension talks

Antonio Conte took charge of Tottenham Hotspur in late 2021 with hopes of guiding the London club on their slow rise into the Premier League’s top-club league.

Instead, promotion up the table appears to have stalled and with his 20-month contract expiring at the end of the season, there are serious questions about his future at the club.

Tottenham are in the mix for a place in the top four of the Premier League table, but an inconsistent string of performances mean a Champions League re-qualification as a top four club is no guarantee. Conte has failed to find lengthy form with his squad despite another productive season from forward Harry Kane.

With speculation the Italian could leave the club this summer, The Sporting News brings you the latest on Conte’s contract status with the Premier League side.

Antonio Conte’s latest Tottenham contract news

While Tottenham fans have fallen in love with Antonio Conte during his time managing Spurs, it doesn’t seem certain he will continue as manager after the 2022/23 season.

According to The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke on March 7, contract talks between Conte and Spurs have been held after the 2022 FIFA World Cup but have not resulted in a new deal and are “unlikely to be revived”.

Pitt-Brooke went on to report that “there is a broad sense among players that he will be out at the end of the season”.

In addition, a report by The Times said that Conte’s time at home in Italy while recovering from gallbladder surgery has fueled a desire to return to his home country after the season.

Spurs have just 12 games left in the Premier League season and while they’re staying afloat in the Champions League after a 1-0 defeat of AC Milan after the first leg of the round of 16, they’re eliminated from both domestic cup competitions and are limping desperately to the Premier League finish line to keep their Champions League place in the table.

Next Tottenham managerial ratings

Should Antonio Conte actually leave the club, there are some familiar faces on the betting lists to take over in London.

At the top is former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently unemployed after spending a successful few years at Spurs before things fell apart in 2019. He has been unemployed since leaving PSG after the 2021/22 season.

Also high on the list is another unemployed manager: former PSG and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, who has yet to find a place to land following his untimely departure from the Blues in the 2022/23 season.
