The Maewing was introduced to ARK through the Genesis Part: 2 DLC where you can find it. Maewing can also be found on Fjordur in the Red Forest and on Lost Island in the desert.

This is the Maewing in ARK: Survival Evolved

Looks: The Maewing is a cross between a Platypus and a Sugarglider, but much larger.

Wild: A peaceful omnivore, he won’t attack you even if you hit him, he just tries to flee.

Domesticated: Tamed the Maewing is a real treasure that can make your life in Ark much easier:

  • Although he cannot fly, he can glide through the air and across the ground. The Maewing will also clear all smaller obstacles such as rocks and is capable of swimming and diving.
  • Since you can craft the Maewing Saddle at level 19, it’s especially useful in the beginning as it also makes farming easier.
  • For you, its most important ability is that it can raise your baby dinosaurs. To raise or feed them, you must put your baby dinosaur’s preferred food in your Mäwing’s inventory and activate breastfeeding as a feeding trough. You can expand the radius of action by leveling up nursing. If you want to take the babies with you, you can put them in one of the four baskets of the Maewing saddle and ride off together. If you set the babies to follow you, you can also solve the imprint through the walking challenge.
  • On a PVP server, the Maewing can be used to steal other players’ baby dinos. To steal, you must approach an enemy player’s Dino Baby and pick it up.
  • The Maewing has no sex, but can still be bred once you have two specimens. Since it has no sex, any Maewing can lay eggs. The eggs have different qualities that you need to cook the different nibbles. The graphic below shows the probability of which egg will be laid.
quality egg size
chance
basic extra small 35%
Easy Small 25%
regular Middle 17.5%
Superior Big 12.5%
Exceptionally Extra big 7.5%
Extraordinary Special 2.5%

  • Raw Prime Meat:
    • You win by gutting larger creatures
    • cooking it becomes cooked Prime Meat

Breeding the Maewing in ARK

How to prepare for breeding: If you have two specimens, you build a sufficiently large enclosure at best. Place both dinos in the pen and set them to roam from the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Pair”, but then a player must always be nearby, otherwise the pairing breaks off due to the rendering.

The breeding interval for a Maewing is 18 to 48 hours.

ARK_Maewing Baby - GuidedHow to hatch eggs: If you get a fertilized Maewing egg from a successful mating, hatching will begin. The ambient temperature of the egg should be between 22°C and 26°C for hatching and 24°C in the egg incubator. According to the default setting, the little Maewing baby hatches after about 1.5 hours. After that, it will need about 4.5 hours of your attention, during which you will have to constantly put food in its inventory.

Once it has reached juvenile status, it can feed itself from troughs. The total ripening time is about 1 day and 22.5 hours.
