ARK: Noglin – How to Tame, Feed and Breed!
German English
Find out everything you need to know about the Noglin with our ARK: Survival Evolved guide. But also how to catch it, tame it, feed it, and also raise offspring.
The Noglin was introduced to ARK through the Genesis Part: 2 DLC where you can find him in the Boros Sector.
This is the Noglin in ARK: Survival Evolved
Looks: The Noglin is a very small alien with huge ears, two large round eyes and two smaller round eyes next to them, walking on all fours. It also has two long antennae on its head and two shorter ones in the middle, the tips of which glow purple.
However, his cuteness disappears as soon as he opens his mouth, which folds down to either side. He shows his many small pointed teeth and his tongue with many small glowing feelers.
Wild: Noglins jump on their prey and control their brains and can use anything they find in the inventory bar or any attacks a dino has to offer. What this means for you: If you have weapons in your inventory bar, once the noglin has taken over your body, they will use them and shoot around. It may also shoot your tamed dinosaurs and teleport them straight to dinosaur heaven.
If you’re really unlucky, it will hit wild creatures that will attack you immediately after being hit. So be careful when walking through the Boros Sector, which is the habitat of the wild Noglins.
Domesticated: Once you’ve tamed a noglin, you can keep it as a shoulder mount or companion. You can transfer your mind to play the Noglin, which allows you to jump onto other creatures to control them (not all creatures and planes can be controlled). If you break the transmission between you and the noglin while the noglin is still on the creature’s head, you control that creature for a period of time.
After the noglin unleash the creature, it’s very likely that creature will go to sleep permanently.
How to tame the noglin in ARK
The Noglin is passively tamed by eating or better controlling your creatures, much like the Troodon. To make things as easy as possible for you, you should first build a trap.
Step 1: The Trap
Build a large room for the trap (no matter how big, but big enough for a bronto) that you connect to a smaller room with a gate, both rooms should be at least as high as the stone gate. If you don’t have cryopods, the big room also needs gates for the dinosaurs, which you leave closed while taming.
Step 2: Get a noglin
The best way to catch a wild Noglin is by using an Argentavis, making it relatively easy to catch. To make finding a Noglin easier, you should turn on the helmet visor, which outlines wild dinos in white. On the map, you need to fly along the x-axis at 50% of the y-axis, but not too far off the ground as the noglin is pretty small and generally hard to see.
If you’ve seen a noglin, get it with the Argentavis, which can snatch it with its beak. Once you have the Noglin in your Argentavis’ beak, fly back to the trap you built and drop the Noglin into the smaller room.
Step 3: The Taming Process
Bring any Brontos, Stegos or/and Carbonemys into the large room of your trap and open the access gate to the room where you threw the noglin. After that, go to a safe place that is also out of Noglin’s range so he can’t use you as a “zombie”. Because as described above: He will take or use everything from your inventory bar.
Ideally, the Noglin will gradually pounce on your animals until it is tamed. If it’s initially not interested in your animals and the noglin keeps freezing, knock it out to make it hungry, but be careful, it’s low on health. When the Noglin wakes up, it should start attacking your dinosaurs. However, this is not possible if it has already reached the first percentage in the taming process, otherwise the process will be reset to 0.
You should stay out of its reach throughout the process as the Noglin prefers humans. If it aims at you, just leave its range and come back a little later.
Taming Tips:
- The Noglin has a cooldown after controlling a creature before it can use the same creature again.
- The higher the level of the Noglin, the longer it will take to tame and the more dinos it will need.
- Brontos brings the most taming percentages, followed by Stegos and the Carbonemys.
- Build a very tall tower next to the trap from which you can watch the taming process.
- The Noglin may take time to tame. Swap or add dinosaurs as needed.
What to feed the noglin in ARK
For food, the noglin prefers living creatures. To feed it to him, you can take the opportunity to play as your noglin, jump on a creature and wait for the noglin to eat enough by controlling it.
How to breed the Noglin in ARK
The Noglin is not breedable in the current version of ARK: Survival Evolved.
