Aston Villa player scouting mission revealed as new details emerge in €60m update
Aston Villa have reportedly expressed an interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder Manuel Ugarte after initially scouting the player earlier this month.
That’s according to Portuguese outlet O Jogo, who claim Villa scouted the player at Emirates Stadium in Arsenal’s Europa League clash. A host of Premier League clubs including Leeds, Newcastle and Wolves were also in attendance that night.
The report highlights that Villa “noticed” Ugarte’s impressive performance as Sporting reached the quarter-finals of the competition after a penalty shoot-out win. Sporting only own 70% of the player’s rights, with the remaining 30% owned by Famalicao – the side he was signed by in 2021.

Aston Villa handed Ollie Watkins contract claim amid Arsenal transfer ‘worries’
Ollie Watkins is in the best form of his career following the arrival of Unai Emery at Aston Villa.
The 27-year-old has made ten contributions in 13 appearances under the Spaniard while he has scored seven goals in that span. Watkins is in red-hot form in front of goal with six goals in his last eight Villa starts.
He plays a crucial role in Emery’s system and has secured his place in the starting XI ahead of next season in which the club will compete for European football. The Villa ace was there earlier in his month with a call for a recall for the England side but Gareth Southgate dismissed him ahead of the EURO 2024 qualifiers against Italy and Ukraine.

Argentina’s no. After joining Villa in the summer of 2020, Martinez quickly equaled Brad Friedel’s record for the number of goals conceded in a Premier League season.
The 30-year-old signed a new contract with Villa last year and is tied until 2027. He recently reiterated his desire to win trophies and play in Europe with Villa. Not only does he have silver medals up for grabs, but he also has personal goals to achieve that would cement his legacy at the club.

Chelsea could lose a highly rated coach from Graham Potter’s backroom side ahead of the Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
After Thomas Tuchel’s appointment to Bayern Munich, Blues coach Anthony Barry could follow him to Allianz, according to The Telegraph. The report adds that Chelsea face a battle to keep Barry, with Tuchel giving the 36-year-old an extremely high rating.
Zsolt Löw and Arno Michels are expected to join Tuchel’s squad in Germany after leaving Chelsea at the same time as the former Borussia Dortmund manager. It’s unclear if Barry wants to join Tuchel at Bayern or if Chelsea would even persuade him to leave Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are grappling with a number of injury concerns ahead of next weekend’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa.
Villa will travel to Stamford Bridge after the international break on Saturday (1 April, kick-off 17:30 CET) and go unbeaten in the last four. While Chelsea are looking to get back to winning ways after a 2-2 draw with Everton.
A number of Chelsea players are currently on international duty, while the likes of N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic have stayed in England to regain full game fitness. Aston Villa defender Matty Cash has pulled out of international duty for Poland after recovering from injury.
The 25-year-old was substituted in the ninth minute of his country’s European Championship qualifier against the Czech Republic on Friday night. At the time of Cash’s move, the hosts were already leading 2-0, with Poland then losing 1-3.
Cash has been replaced by FC Augsburg’s Robert Gummy and Poland have now confirmed the extent of the injury. A statement released by the national team on Twitter read: “Matty Cash has left the Polish national team due to an injury he picked up in yesterday’s game.

Aston Villa-linked Ibrahim Sangare has reportedly been offered to a number of top Premier League clubs.
Villa was linked with the PSV Eindhoven midfielder alongside Leicester City last summer. At this point, Sangare stayed in the Netherlands and signed a five-year contract with the Eredivisie club.
However, a recent report by 90min claims that Sangare’s agent has “warned” Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea about his summer availability. The 25-year-old is reportedly looking for a new challenge and is ‘ready to test himself’.

Scotland beat Cyprus 3-0 at Hampden Park this afternoon (Saturday), breaking their opening game hoodoo. The Villa captain broke the block in the first half before Manchester United’s Scott McTominay scored a brace in the closing stages of the game.

Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey sends Gareth Southgate ‘sensational’ message
Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey took the spotlight in England U21’s 4-0 win over France at the King Power Stadium this afternoon.
The 21-year-old was picked by Lee Carsley for this month’s friendlies against France and Croatia. Ramsey came on as a substitute on the bench before replacing Angel Gomes with just under 20 minutes to go.
However, it wasn’t long before he found the back of the net and sealed the score for the Young Lions in the 86th minute. Ramsey started the move before calmly putting the ball into the back net.
