Atlas Copco Power and Flow has launched a next-generation electric submersible dewatering pump, the WEDA D95, which is said to incorporate state-of-the-art Wear Deflector Technology (WDT).

The robust and reliable pump offers best-in-class performance over a longer service life than comparable pumps in highly abrasive environments such as mining, tunneling and construction, enabling operators to improve sustainability and productivity, the company says.

Rated at 37-43 kW, WEDA D95 is the latest pump in the WEDA D drainage range to feature the WDT which minimizes wear and provides consistent performance over a longer lifespan. According to Atlas Copco, features such as a highly chrome-plated wear-resistant impeller combined with solids deflection assist vanes contribute to its exceptional performance. The pump also features adjustable hydraulics that allow for easy realignment to compensate for wear, thereby extending its life. All of these elements have a significant positive impact on overall operational productivity, which means users can achieve lower total cost of ownership.

Bart Duijvelaar, Product Marketing Manager – Submersible Pumps at Atlas Copco Power and Flow, said: “In harsh applications there is often a lot of suspended matter, which can lead to excessive abrasion and wear inside the pump. At Atlas Copco we are driven by innovation and that is why we have brought the basic design of the dewatering pump back to the drawing board. We optimized the hydraulic design using computational fluid dynamics and applied 21st century manufacturing techniques combined with decades of experience to create this new durable and reliable pump.”

The pump was also built with maintenance and serviceability in mind. The design allows users to conduct on-site inspections and maintenance themselves, reducing downtime and associated costs. For example, the mechanical seal is a unique single cartridge made of stainless steel and not many separate components, so according to the company it can easily be replaced in one piece.

The WEDA D95 also has external oil control plugs. Operators can access the screws to check the quality of the oil and the health of the seal without having to disassemble the entire pump. This facilitates preventive maintenance, allowing users to spot problems before they result in an outage, the company said. Overall, the ease of service makes it possible to restore the pump to its original performance without replacing many parts, which benefits sustainability.

In addition, the D-Series pumps are available with a range of accessories including different types of pressure fittings, pump rafts and zinc anodes for added corrosion resistance.
