Banker horse racing tips from Sporting Life and Timeform team for Saturday March 25

The racing experts from Timeform and Sporting Life share their top picks for this Saturday’s action.

Andrew Asquith – WALK IN THE STORM (1.58 Bangor)

GO IN THE STORM didn’t need to improve on her previous form when she opened her account in a bumper at Newcastle last year and she hasn’t shown much in her first two hurdle starts this season. She was a lot shorter in the bets though and caught the eye in her qualifying run at Uttoxeter last month as being too busy but even with considerate treatment she did her best job at the finish.

Walk In The Storm was surprisingly easy enough to go back to her handicap debut last time out, but she savored the step up in the journey and left the impression that she’s more than capable of winning races of this type of brand , and once again to give everything best work on the finish line. Walking up to three miles could be the stuff of her now and based on her shock form and what she has achieved over hurdles she is a horse to keep on the right side of this type of brand.

Kieran Clark – ESPOIR DE GUYE (2.05 Newbury)

Fresh from a productive Cheltenham, Paul Nicholls’ train rolls into Newbury this weekend and ESPOIR DE GUYE can defy the top weight in the handicap chase with 2.05. He performed quite encouragingly in his last stable debut and only seemed to realize the lack of a recent outing late after a four month absence behind The Big Bite and meets this rival on 8lb better terms on this occasion.

Returning to testing conditions will also suit and seems primed for a return to winning ways which resonates well at 5/1.

Josh Brame – HELTENHAM (2.05 Newbury)

My idea of a Saturday banker is the one coached by Dan Skelton HELTENHAMwho is bidding for the hat trick when he loses the underweight in the (14:05) Run For Your Money at the BetVictor Handicap Chase in Newbury.

A progressive type, he finished second in his first two starts over fences but has since scored twice each at Newcastle and Ffos Las and won that last game with plenty in hand. After a short break, Heltenham is ready to get his preferred conditions back and there’s a good chance more improvements are still to come from him.

Ben Linfoot – WALK OF NO SHAME (3.00 Kelso)

Jonjo O’Neill’s mare WALK OF NO SHAME Worth supporting at BetVictor Herring Queen Series Final Mares’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle up in Kelso. The walk-in-the-park mare came out of fifth place in a novice hurdles at Warwick by winning by five lengths at Lingfield before being beaten 4/7 at Wincanton when the emphasis was on speed .

She is a tenacious two mile runner and will probably appreciate a solid canter in this better competition, especially with Never No Trouble, Jane Du Berlais and Midnight Shuffle likely to make it on the journey to a class. Jonjo likes a spring winner at Kelso – he’s 7/24 at 29.17% at that track in March and April – and this mare is the only horse to complete the 600-mile round trip from his farm on Saturday at Jackdaws Castle.

Adam Houghton – HILL SIXTEEN (3.35 Kelso)

HILL SIXTEEN is on a losing streak that stretches back to November 2020 but he’s had a couple of really good losing races at Kelso in the meantime and it was only in October that he finished third at this course and distance behind posh Sounds Russian (who was his allow 5 pounds).

That speaks to strong form in the context of this race, and Hill Sixteen is now 2 pounds lighter in weight as he makes his first appearance since a stunning performance at the Becher Chase at Aintree in December.

He had respiratory surgery while on the sidelines and should be in it, if that’s going to make any improvement at all, with no better man than Sandy Thomson when it comes to clinching a valuable pot at his local track.

Billy Nash – INSINUENDO – (Curragh 3.57)

Assisting horses in turf racing at this time of year should probably come with some sort of government health warning, given the number of uncertainties involved. However, from the reviews point of view, it is very difficult to ignore the claims of INSINUENDO in the Park Express operations. She was unlucky to bump into Mother Earth at this race last year and then a bit unlucky not to beat Luxemburg when she was next seen in August.

Willie McCreery’s mare was also placed here in the Blandford and in the Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot on Champions Day, but the fact she didn’t win a race last year means she comes in here with no penalty. Insinuendo is running well fresh, proven on proving grounds and the emphasis on endurance on this journey will suit her far better than likely main competitors Agartha and Star Girls Aalmal.

David Johnson – MASHAAN (4.40 Lingfield)

Mashaan had a good time for Alice Haynes this time last year and although his form has waned somewhat in the second half of the season this ensures he has fallen back to a good mark and recent efforts suggest he may gets in shape. He was running well for a long time last time out finishing second to Inaam ahead of C&D and although this rival is again opposed the turnaround in weights suggests Mashaan has a good chance of coming out on top this time.

Matt Brocklebank – CONISTON GEORGE (5.20 Kelso)

It might be worth waiting with Kelso and the lucky last one CONISTON GEORGE in the bumper. Nicky Richards’ protégé was easy to help on his debut at Haydock in December, started 12/1, was much shorter earlier in the day but put up a big race second.

He clearly learned a lot from that half-time loss as he leapfrogged to victory on his return to Ayr last month, although he still showed some signs of green. There is much more to come from the five year old and although the ground will be much softer this weekend the Flemensfirth son should not be unduly bothered by the ground conditions.
