Best Dodgers-Padres prop bets today: Top SuperDraft player prop picks for Sunday Night Baseball

It has been one heck of a week in Major League Baseball, with a number of big trades upping the excitement of the upcoming playoff race. Closing out a wild week, tonight’s Sunday Night Baseball showdown features the series finale of the NL West-rival Dodgers and Padres. Today we will highlight our four favorite over/under prop bets for this divisional tilt, and hopefully help make you some money to finish off the weekend in style.

The Dodgers took the first two games in San Diego this weekend, and looked primed to make it 3-0 on Saturday night. Los Angeles entered the 8th inning up 3-1, but the Padres broke off seven runs in the bottom of the eighth and left L.A. fans with their jaws dropped. Now San Diego will look to finish the series with an even 2-2 split, while the Dodgers hope to win the series 3-1 and further the divide between them and the Giants.

The two pitchers on the mound Sunday evening — Rich Hill for San Diego and Lance Lynn for L.A. — have a combined 31 seasons of MLB experience. So, suffice to say, most veteran opposing hitters have seen plenty of them throughout their careers. That helps our decision-making with over/under props in a major way, and makes us feel very confident with our parlay going into the night.

For those who aren’t familiar with SuperDraft, sign up now! Users can pick their favorite over/unders via SuperDraft’s Fantasy Props feature, bringing them closer to the action while having a chance to win cash prizes. You win three times the amount you wager if your two-legged player prop parlay hits, and the more legs you add to your player prop parlay, the larger your potential payout becomes.

Below, we’ll break down four of our favorite SuperDraft player props for the Blue Jays-Orioles game on Thursday afternoon. Users don’t necessarily have to parlay all four picks together, though. Instead, you could make separate two-legged parlays to increase your win probability or attempt to hit it big if all four picks come through. Good luck, have fun, and enjoy your weekend!

Best Dodgers-Padres prop bets today: SuperDraft player prop picks for Sunday 8/6

*10x potential payout if users parlay all four correct picks

1. Mookie Betts, 2B/OF, Dodgers — OVER 1.5 bases (4/5 confidence)

Betts has surprisingly faced Lynn just four times throughout his career, resulting in one measly single. But the Dodgers superstar is currently riding another torrid stretch, entering the day with a 12-game hitting streak and two-plus bases in four of his past five games. We can’t fathom betting against him right now, especially against a 43-year-old who has surrendered seven-plus hits in four of his past five starts.

The Padres needed someone — anyone — to inject some life into their rotation, but we’re not sure Hill was the answer. The 19-year veteran nailed down just one win over his past nine starts for the Pirates dating back to mid-June, during which he saw his ERA and WHIP shoot up to 4.76 and 1.48.

Mookie should be all over Hill tonight — he’s slashing .289/.405/.702 against left-handed pitchers, and 21 of his 30 knocks against southpaws have been extra-base hits. Hill, meanwhile, has surrendered an opposing slash line of .279/.338/.489 to right-handed batters — as well as a whopping 15 home runs and 34 doubles. Smash the OVER here.

2. Xander Bogaerts, SS, Padres — UNDER 1 single (3/5 confidence)

Some pitchers just have hitters’ numbers, and such seems to be the case with Lance Lynn and Bogaerts. The X-man has registered 22 plate appearances against the veteran right-hander, with only three hits to show for it. His lifetime slash line against Lynn: .150/.191/.200. Bleh.

Even worse, Lynn allowed just five hits in his Dodgers debut on Monday, the fewest baserunners he’s allowed since he pitched six innings of one-hit baseball against the Blue Jays while he was still with the White Sox. A reinvigorated Lynn is a good thing, and we expect his historic success against Bogaerts to continue this evening.

3. J.D. Martinez, DH/OF, Dodgers — UNDER 1.5 bases (2/5 confidence)

Martinez has 18 career plate appearances against Hill, with a respectable .250/.333/.500 slash line against the Padres lefty. But he only has two career extra-base hits against the veteran pitcher, a double and a homer, and he has gone down by way of the strikeout against him seven times.

Martinez has also put up most of his power numbers against right-handed pitchers this season. Take a look at his platoon splits against lefties and righties this season:

vs. LHP/RHP AB AVG SLG 2B HR
vs. LHP 87 .253 .483 8 4
vs. RHP 247 .263 .587 13 21

Considering his underwhelming past against Hill — as well as his unspectacular results against lefties this season — we’re going with the UNDER here.

4. Rich Hill, SP, Padres — UNDER 4 strikeouts or FADE (1.5/5 confidence)

This is a low bar for an over/under, so we’re most likely fading this prop entirely. However, if we were forced to play this one, we would likely go with the UNDER. Hill did have seven strikeouts in his last outing with the Pirates — but that was against the free-swinging Phillies, who strike out at the seventh-highest rate in the majors.

The Dodgers have a much more disciplined approach at the plate, with a vastly better command of the strike zone. And Hill has only eclipsed three total Ks in one of his past five starts! You have two plays here — avoid this prop like the plague, or bet the UNDER and pray.
