Cross-sport specials are one of the most rewarding ways to combine knowledge from different sports to find an edge to overcome market inefficiencies. This bet is a crossover between NBA and NFL and can be found in the Cross Sports tab by hovering down the menu.
We start with LeBron James, who has shown no signs of slowing down in his illustrious career averaging 45.7 points + rebounds + assists in 44 games this season. During that span of time, his co-star Anthony Davis missed 19 games, resulting in James’ commitment to winning games increasing. In games where both played, James saw a noticeable drop from 50.1 to 42.3 points + rebounds + assists.
As the newly crowned NBA top scorer, we shouldn’t see games where James demands the ball to break a record. Especially after a successful trading period that saw the Lakers add talent to balance their roster, James could take another step back to ensure D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt are brought into the system.
Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts’ dual-threat Philadelphia Eagles quarterback is averaging 50.7 rushing yards per game, five points ahead of James’ points + rebounds + assists average.
The Alabama product suffered a shoulder injury in Week 15 but has since been involved in two non-running playoff blowout wins. Still, the quarterback had 11 carries in the NFC title game against the San Francisco 49ers, showing he can still be mobile with a shoulder injury.
In the six games that were decided 0-7 points, Hurts averaged 56.2 rushing yards. As of Week 14, the Chiefs’ defense has ranked sixth in quarterback pressure rate (39%), and All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones could give Hurts opportunities to use his legs to climb. The Chiefs have the third-most rushing yards (26.32) and eighth-most yards per carry (4.95) allowed against opposing quarterbacks.
Their respective views contrast with each other. James will return to a revamped Lakers roster in a role where he doesn’t have to carry a heavier burden than before. Hurts should now see some real competition after being in back-to-back games where it was over after halftime.
Sportsbook has Hurts’ rushing yards line at around 49.5, and LeBron’s points + rebounds + assists line should start at around 40.5 to 43.5. LeBron would need a 30-point triple-double to match Jalen Hurt’s move higher, and I don’t see that.
This line’s sportsbook offers an edge over LeBron’s motivation to break scoring title success and the trade that brought more talent to the Lakers. With that in mind, take the hurts side and ride with confidence. I would play this to -130.
Choose: Hurts Rushing Yards (-125)
