Brazil match schedule 2023: Next games, fixtures for national football team

With Brazil eliminated from the 2022 World Cup, an era came to an end with the departure of longtime head coach Tite.

A quarter-final penalty shoot-out defeat by Croatia drew widespread criticism of his tactics at home in Brazil as Neymar’s extra-time miracle goal wasn’t enough to propel them through to the semi-finals.

The expected changes are yet to materialize, however, as the Brazilian Football Federation is taking its time in appointing Tite’s replacement, with a potential squad reshuffle under a new head coach.

A reduced schedule early in 2023 has given Brazil some breathing room to take the next step towards the 2026 World Cup from September 2023.

Brazil Schedule 2023

While competitive matches have already started in Europe, Africa and North America in 2023, South America will only resume with its first qualifying competition in September.

Because of this, Brazil have only played one friendly since the end of the 2022 World Cup.

New captain Casemiro scored a consolation goal in the 2-1 defeat at World Cup semi-finalists Morocco on 25 March.

Below are the confirmed 2026 World Cup qualifiers for Brazil in 2023:

When do the qualifiers for the CONMEBOL World Cup 2026 start?

CONMEBOL President Alejandro Dominguez confirmed that qualifying for the 2026 World Cup will begin in September 2023.

Preliminary data suggests a 10-month break between blocks of games from November 2023 to September 2024, a gap in which the 2024 Copa America will be played.

Who is Brazil manager?

Tite’s departure ended the tenure of the Brazil national team’s longest-serving coach, with the former Corinthians head coach having managed the team since 2016.

In those six years, he secured qualification for two World Championships but failed to win a major trophy, which ultimately led to his exit.

Speculations over who will eventually take Tite’s place continue to mount as Brazil FA president Ednaldo admits Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti is his first choice.

Ancelotti’s link with Los Blancos’ Brazil contingent has only fueled rumors of a move as his future at Madrid is under pressure. However, a possible move to take over Brazil would not come until June at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Brazil U20 head coach Ramon Menezes has been promoted to interim and will remain in charge until a new coach is hired.

Squad players Brazil 2023

Menezes opted to mix his options for the March 2023 friendly against Morocco as a host of players asked to focus on the business end of their club season in Europe rather than travel to Tangier.

Whoever takes charge is expected to bring some new players, including Juventus Bremer, new Chelsea star Andrey Santos and Athletico Paranaense’s Vitor Roque, all of whom will have a part to play in 2023.
