Buddo secondary school celebrates sporting, academic excellence
Overview:
On Buddo Achievers’ Day, gifts were given to the outstanding students, old students, teaching and non-teaching staff to help motivate them.
It was a euphoric moment as Buddo Secondary School celebrated academic and sporting excellence from the previous year, 2022.
As a motivational tool, gifts were distributed to the outstanding students, old students, teaching staff and non-teaching staff on the day.
School Principal Lawrence Muwonge commended the various outstanding individuals as a longstanding culture at the school, all of whom should be rewarded on campus.
The day-long event began with a Mass, followed by a number of speeches and the giving of gifts, which also included cash prizes.
“We have developed a culture over the years of rewarding the outstanding individuals as a token of recognition for the good work of the previous year (2022). We reward the outstanding people to recognize them for the work they have done and to motivate others,” Muwonge revealed.
Exceptional sports personalities and academic giants were among the award winners.
The 3X3 women’s basketball team that conquered Africa at the recent Africa Basketball Championship in Morocco also received gifts.
Elizabeth Nakabugo (S1), Angella Auma (S3), Christine Namyalo (S4) and Happy Daisy Atukunda all received their recognition gifts.
“It’s a great feeling to be recognized at Buddo SS Achiever’s Day. We did our best in Morocco to become African champions. We are honored for the gifts that continue to motivate us to do even better,” revealed Captain Namyalo.
Key guest David Ssemakula Katende (Deputy Secretary General of the National Council of Sports) praised the spirit of rewarding outstanding students in sport, academics, and teachers and non-teaching staff.
“The spirit of rewarding excellence in sports and academies will continue to set standards and motivate many others,” noted Katende.
Katende donated football, netball and basketball sports equipment in the form of balls (10 per discipline) as well as the trophies for which the in-house school competitions are contested internally.
He also shared that sport will now be mandatory in the Ministry of Education and Sport’s circular, with a minimum of 15 indoor and outdoor sports per school to be accommodated as regulation.
The famous school choir entertained the parents and other guests with outspoken songs.
