Buying or Selling John Cena vs. Logan Paul WrestleMania Plans and Latest WWE Rumors

The WWE rumor landscape has reached a critical juncture, with less than a month between fans and WrestleMania 39.

The April 1-2 event at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California somehow feels bigger than most in history, and the excitement around it seems right.

After all, it will host the intriguing potential conclusion to the Bloodline storyline centered around Roman Reigns, feature all the expected big names, and mark a milestone in Triple H’s creative era.

Some of the most notable rumors revolve around Brock Lesnar’s fate at the event, possible return and where names like John Cena and Logan Paul could end up on the map.

Here’s a look at some of the biggest rumors fans should know about, and whether to buy or sell them.

This was inevitable — WWE would make a booking decision that would be controversial with fans, and speculation suggested Vince McMahon, not Triple H, was in control.

The easiest culprit this year is obviously the revelation Brock Lesnar is about to make against Omos, anything Wrestle Votes recommended.

While it certainly feels As with a McMahon selection, there’s nothing to suggest Vince pushed his way into creative meetings and demanded it.

In fact, it can feel like a triple H pick too. WrestleMania is all about spectacle, and Lesnar’s clash with a 7’3-inch, 400-pound giant certainly fits into the picture. Omos has had his problems at times, but he’s still only 28 and the only guy who can hold that role for a long time.

Keeping Lesnar away from cover scenes and getting him into a quick match that could greatly benefit Omos, a potentially important part of the company’s future, really is an obvious move. That seems a lot more Triple H than Vince at this point.

Verdict: sale

Another report has seemingly confirmed that what fans booked for Mania was likely the original plan.

According to Fightful Select (h/t Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats), the original plan for WrestleMania 39 was for The Rock to take on unified champion Roman Reigns. One of Drew McIntyre or Cody Rhodes would have taken on Seth Rollins for the WWE Championship.

The Rock obviously couldn’t pull it off, and one has to wonder if it would have made any difference at all given how well The Usos and Sami Zayn did with the family-based storyline. However, this rumor implies that WWE would have found a way to split up the unified titles and/or create a new one for Rhodes to pursue.

What this doesn’t do is tell us if it means Rhodes actually dethrones Roman in the main event. However, this has always felt like the natural course of events, with rock possibly being a nice bonus to what is already a stellar situation for WWE and fans.

Verdict: Buy

Were fans close to seeing John Cena return in a spectacular WrestleMania match against Logan Paul?

According to Fightful Select (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News), WWE originally scheduled this match before changing course.

As of this writing, however, Cena’s opponent should be US Champion Austin Theory, while Paul finds himself in a fitting confrontation with Seth Rollins.

Honestly, it always felt like there was no other way but the Cena Theory. Cena is the guy who goes for younger talent, and Theory is one of those handpicked guys on the rise. There weren’t many other appealing opponents for Theory, and its parallels with Cena are almost uncanny, not to mention Cena’s history with the US title.

It’s the same with Paul Rollins. Paul has already reached the peak of his fight against Reigns, and there’s no more prominent guy outside of wrestling than Rollins – someone who can address the encounter better than pretty much anyone.

But mostly it’s about how perfect the Cena theory always seemed, and how WWE was smart enough to keep Cena and Paul apart to spread their massive impact over a two-night map.

Verdict: sale

Speaking of the spectacle at WrestleMania, few get bigger exclusively in the pro wrestling space than Finn Balor’s alter ego The Demon.

Fans haven’t seen The Demon for a long time, at least probably in part because shoddy booking and storytelling ruined some of the mystique.

But let the rumor mill tell it, WWE is considering a return. According to WRKD Wrestling (h/t Ortman), it’s on the table for Balor’s match at WrestleMania. And Fightful Select (h/t Ortman) says the alter ego for Balor’s planned encounter with Edge at the Royal Rumble was on the table.

On the one hand, there’s a sense that Judgment Day probably doesn’t need Balor’s demon in the picture. But on the other hand, it would create an interesting dynamic within the group and get the best out of his Mania opponent.

And last but not least, The Demon screams mania. If not, then when? Given the current flat state of Wyatt’s run, there’s always room for a supernatural force among fans.

Verdict: purchase

Conventional wisdom seems to indicate that Ronda Rousey would step into a women’s title match at WrestleMania.

A solo title, that is. Rousey lost her women’s title in December and it was easy to expect that she would be back in the mix by Mania season.

But according to WrestlingNews.co (h/t Ortman), the originally scheduled title match against Rhea Ripley was turned down by Rousey herself because she wants to win the women’s tag titles with Shayna Baszler.

And the best answer is…why not? Rousey has been doing the solo thing for a long time. Fans might demand that she take on Becky Lynch at Mania or clash with Ripley, but it’s hard to pinpoint a scenario where the loser of these hypotheses doesn’t take damage. Rousey herself has always polarized as a solo act for her mic and in-ring work, so a foray into the tag division might help soften those things.

It doesn’t matter, it just sounds funny. Rousey and Baszler are former UFC fighters who could make an entertaining story against current champions Lynch and Lita. Given the renewed focus on Rousey and Baszler lately, this is an easy buy.

Verdict: purchase
