Can Sporting cause an upset in this year’s FA CUP?

The world’s oldest single knockout soccer competition begins. This year is the 142nd edition since the competition was first staged in 1871 when 15 clubs took part and the first four matches were played on 11 November. The first historic goal was scored by Jarvis Kenrick in the game between Upton Park and Clapham Rovers.

Sporting Bromsgrove starts the season

This young club was founded in 2009 in Bromsgrove Worcestershire, England. They made their debut in the 2010/2011 season in Midland Football Combination Division Two where they finished third. Although the club currently plays in the Southern League Premier Division Central, they have bigger ambitions and a desire to compete at a higher level. Because of this, the average attendance of fans at their games is higher than others in the same league. This resulted in the club reaching the 4th qualifying round for the FA Cup 21/22.

The Rouslers got off to a great start, beating Loughborough Students 2-0 right at the start of qualifying. Also in the next round they won with an unbelievable 6:0 against Worksop Town. In the third round they played Welwyn Garden City, which they defeated 1-0. And then came a painful 5-0 defeat to Grimsby Town in the last round.

The boys could not recover from this defeat and regretted the lost game until the end of the season. This also eliminated them in the first round of the FA Trophy. They lost 4-3 to Morpeth Town on penalties. Team coach Thomas Baillie will have a lot of work ahead of him this season if he decides to turn a bad experience to their advantage and help them play calmer and smarter this season to find greater success. He must shape the Sporting team and inspire the winning spirit in them. They had the same thing last season in the first three rounds of the EmiratesFA Cup.

Can there be a sensation this season and who from the lower division can surprise the whole football world? Qualifying rounds are upon us and where Sporting were eliminated last year, this season they are more poised than ever to attack the Emirates FA Cup and write new pages in footballing history.

Southern League Premier Division Central starts August 6th. The Rouslers welcome St Ives Town to their home ground.

The additional preliminary round of the Emirates FA Cup also begins on August 6th. The preliminary round is scheduled for August 20th. On September 3 he awaits the boys’ first qualifying round of the Bromsgrove Emirates FA Cup. 416 teams fight for the trophy. It remains to be seen who will be partying at Wembley Stadium next June, is this the year of surprises?

There are a lot of games being played, so the team has to stay at a high level throughout the season, justifying the fans’ trust. Just how wide the reach of this club really is, what the players are ready for this season and whether it’s possible to repeat a miracle-working lower-league club remains to be seen.

Good to know

The team with the most trophies in this competition is Arsenal with 14 titles. The only non-English club to win the FA Cup was Welsh club Cardiff City in 1927. Only one club in history has won the FA Cup without playing in the Premier League or Championship. It was Tottenham Hotspur in 1901, then a member of the Southern League (3rd division).
