Last year, when both the Montreal Canadiens and Arizona Coyotes battled for the first overall, the Habs managed to be on the losing side in both straight-throughs of the season series with an aggregate score of 11-5. This year, the Canadiens have taken a small step forward, with youth exuberance leading the way, while the Coyotes have also added some promising young players.

While it’s likely to be another short season for these two clubs, they’re at least finding ways to be competitive in the league and provide a challenge for their opponents. Both come into this game with angry wins; the Canadiens an overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins; the Coyotes the originators of the recent “unacceptable” loss for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Whether they want to play today’s game at the same level is another question entirely, but we won’t see the rookies slow down so we should brace for a decent game on that front.
