Liverpool have been searching for an impressive Benfica midfielder, Luis Diaz continues to push his recovery and the latest on the club’s takeover situation.
Liverpool have ‘checked’ the Benfica midfielder.
The Reds are looking for a midfielder, or one or two, maybe four, this summer and I’m sure we’ll continue to see many connections with different players.
The youngest is Benfica’s Florentino Luis, and GOAL’s Neil Jones explained that alongside Arsenal, Liverpool are “among those who have done checks” among their scouts in the area.
And they will have been impressed by his defensive prowess as he currently averages more defensive actions per 90 in the opposition half than any other player in Europe’s top six leagues.
The 23-year-old is a key figure for Benfica as a defensive midfielder, with former Benfica manager Joao Tralhao saying that “it’s not easy to find a midfielder with the defensive qualities that he has.”
“He can play anywhere, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool, anywhere. He would have no problem adapting.”
Luis has the flexibility to play the role of No 8 in addition to No 6, the kind of profile Jurgen Klopp enjoys and there were media links with the midfielder late last year.
He has a contract until 2027 with Benfica who are unlikely to let him go for less than a premium.
