Chelsea admire 38-year-old manager, but they’re keeping Potter

Chelsea’s owners reportedly admire Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim but there’s no indication they want to ditch Graham Potter.

According to journalist Simon Phillips on his substack, sources claim the Blues hierarchy still has faith in Potter as head coach at Stamford Bridge.

They see Mikel Arteta’s recent success at Arsenal as a reward for sticking with one manager during difficult times early in his tenure.

It is understood that Sporting boss Amorim, 38, is someone “appreciated” by the Chelsea ownership group.

However, that doesn’t mean her attitude towards Potter’s role at Stamford Bridge has changed.

Everything revolving around the club at the moment suggests Potter has more time to turn the tide at Chelsea, which can hopefully begin in the weekend’s game against Tottenham.

Last Saturday’s home defeat to Southampton in the Premier League was a real low point for the fan base but there is a London derby this week to try and mend some of the damage.

As for Potter, everyone knows he has an incredibly large roster right now and it must be a nightmare managing such a large group.

However, given the quality on the pitch, the team is in dire need of better results.

Ruben Amorim has been dropped

It’s interesting to hear that Amorim is mentioned as someone who likes Chelsea.

Although only 38 years old, he has already won five trophies in his career as a young manager. He has won four trophies with current team Sporting as well as one trophy with former club Braga.

His favorite 3-4-3 system is certainly one that Chelsea fans are familiar with, having both Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte been successful with it in west London in the past.
