- Marcus Thuram expires at Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer
- The forward has attracted interest from Arsenal and Chelsea
- The French international has rejected a contract offer from the Bundesliga side
Marcus Thuram will leave Borussia Mönchengladbach on a free transfer this summer due to interest from numerous Premier League clubs.
The 25-year-old is due to leave Germany without a contract this summer and is expected to leave the Bundesliga club without compensation given the interest he has attracted with France since Qatar 2022.
The striker made five appearances during the big tournament – all off the bench – as Les Bleus finished second after a penalty shoot-out defeat by Argentina.
His performances for both his country and club have attracted interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, among others, after teams failed in their attempts to win his signature last month.
Thuram is currently enjoying the best goalscoring streak of his career, having equaled his personal best of 11 league goals in a season after just 20 games.
His team’s last goal came in a surprising 3-2 win against Bayern Munich at the weekend.
Gladbach’s sporting director Roland Virkus has revealed that Thuram has turned down a contract offer from the club and is determined to move to a “bigger club”. after failing to make his move during the January transfer window.
Virkus told German news agency Sport1: “We stretched ourselves with Marcus Thuram. We have decided to let Thuram go.
“The fact that he will walk at large is not a positive situation. I can’t sugarcoat it. We have to accept that there are bigger clubs he could move to.”
Chelsea and Arsenal are also expected to face competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham, Manchester United and Newcastle, all of whom also showed interest during the January transfer window.
The son of French world champion Lilian Thuram is a Sochaux academy graduate and made his debut for the Ligue 2 side in 2015 before moving to Guingamp two years later.
After another two seasons at the Stade de Roudourou, the youngster made his way to Monchengladbach in 2019 for £10.6million.
Thuram has honed his skills in front of goal, scoring double figures in three of his four seasons for the German club in all competitions.
Thuram, who can play up front or left, has scored 42 goals in 124 games for Mönchengladbach.
