Chelsea vs. Tottenham live score, updates, highlights and lineups from Premier League 2022/23
It’s week two of the new Premier League season and we already have our first Big Six clash with Chelsea hosting rivals Tottenham at Stamford Bridge.
Thomas Tuchel’s Blues recorded a narrow 1-0 win over Everton in the season opener, while Spurs celebrated a 4-1 win over Southampton at home.
While Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski all looked good against the Saints, Chelsea’s front three struggled with new signing Raheem Sterling playing in the middle, flanked by Kai Havertz and Mason Mount.
Chelsea didn’t concede a goal in the Premier League last season, beating Spurs 2-0 and 3-0, nor in a 3-0 aggregate win in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. But Conte’s side seem to be a different beast at the moment and present a much more difficult task.
The Sporting News is following the Chelsea v Tottenham match live with live score updates and commentary.

Chelsea vs Tottenham live updates, highlights from Premier League clash
20 minutes: Goal! Chelsea 1 (20′ Koulibaly) Tottenham 0 – What a goal! Koulibaly hits a full-volley Cucurella corner and finds the top corner of Tottenham’s net to put Chelsea ahead! Incredible finish from the centre-back!
19 minutes: HAVERTZ… in the face! This is the game’s best opening so far! Sterling played a nice back heel pass to Havertz but he fired across and just wide! In fact, it got a very light touch from Lloris.
17 minutes: Koulibaly gets the shot away after a long pass from Chelsea. The home side are pushing, but they lack presence in the penalty area. The Spurs find it easy to deflect crosses that are thrown into their area.
15 minutes: Something to keep in mind…
Kulusevski was a little lucky not to be sent off for elbowing Cucurella when Spurs played Brighton in April. Here they are already nibbling at each other.

13 minutes: Conte gave instructions to Sessegnon in the early stages of this game. He was very impressive in last weekend’s win over Southampton but the youngster is still very raw. Sessegnon will be shaped by Conte this season.
9 minutes: Kante puts the ball into Tottenham’s penalty area but nobody in the blue shirt tackles it. Perhaps Chelsea are missing an instinctive number nine?
7 minutes: Here’s how Chelsea fans welcomed new owner Boehly at Stamford Bridge for his first Premier League as the club’s new owner…

5 minutes: It was an energetic start at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have improved possession but they haven’t been able to feed any of their front line yet.
2 minutes: That was a chance for Tottenham. Jorginho lost the ball in the middle of the field, Kulusevski extended the pass to Son but he took too long to do anything with it and Chelsea were able to come back and recover.
1 minute: The game at Stamford Bridge is underway! Chelsea wear their familiar blue kit, while Tottenham Hotspur also wear their home kit – white shirts and navy blue shorts.
5 minutes to kick-off: The two teams are on the pitch at Stamford Bridge before kick-off. It looks and sounds like an excellent atmosphere for this London derby!
10 minutes to kick-off: Of course, this isn’t just the first league home game for Cucurella, Koulibaly and Sterling, it’s Todd Boehly’s first Premier League game at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea owner. The American businessman has shown his willingness to spend in the transfer market this summer!
20 minutes to kick-off: Not long now until kick-off at Stamford Bridge. Who do you want to get three points in this game? Can either Chelsea or Tottenham Hotspur fight for the Premier League title this season?
30 minutes to kick-off: The teams are heading to Stamford Bridge for a warm-up, although in this sunshine they’re probably already quite warm!
This promises to be the most compelling game in the Premier League this weekend. City and Liverpool may be the dominant duo but if anyone is set to stay with them this season it will most likely be one from Chelsea or Spurs.

40 minutes to kick-off: Chelsea will certainly need more from their front line this afternoon than they got at Goodison Park last weekend. Sterling played well last weekend but Havertz and Mount were quiet.
50 minutes to kick-off: Unsurprisingly, Conte remains with the same team that destroyed Southampton last week. Kulusevski retains his place in the squad, making this an offensive choice from Spurs.

60 minutes to kick-off: Cucurella starts! Tuchel has made the decision to give Cucurella his first start as a Chelsea player. There is also a place in the XI for Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

70 minutes to kick-off: Tottenham impressed in the opening weekend’s 4-1 win over Southampton. Dejan Kulusevski was one of the best players on the pitch – will he start again today? Or will Antonio Conte fill the middle of the field with another central midfielder?

80 minutes to kick-off: Will Marc Cucurella get his first start as a Chelsea player this afternoon? The former Barcelona left-back was impressive off the bench against Everton. Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling are expected to start again for the Blues.
90 minutes until kick-off: It will be interesting to see if Thomas Tuchel stays with the same XI that started at Goodison Park last weekend. Chelsea clinched the three points in a 1-0 win over Everton but they played like a side that still have a few things to figure out, particularly in attack.
100 minutes to kick-off: The heat at Stamford Bridge could be a factor in this afternoon’s game. It’s really very warm. There will be cooling off periods, as has been the case across the Premier League this weekend.

110 minutes to kick-off: Chelsea and Tottenham both started their 2022/23 Premier League campaigns with victories in the opening weekend. However, this will be a better gauge of where these two teams stand and how strong they are at the moment.
Two hours to kick-off: The big issue at this game will be whether Tottenham can show they are more competitive against Chelsea than they were last season (8-0 in four games). That’s what the two coaches say about it.
“I’m not a journalist, you can say that better than me” 😂

Tuchel on Conte’s comments last season about a gap between Chelsea and Tottenham: “I don’t believe everything Antonio Conte says before and after the games.
“I admire him a lot and I believe that every team he coaches fights for everything. He’s proving that.” #CFC

Chelsea vs Tottenham Lineups
Kalidou Koulibaly was substituted at Everton in the second half but Tuchel confirmed the former Napoli defender was just suffering from cramps and is starting again. Left full-back Marc Cucurella was presented with his first start as a Chelsea player Ben Chilwell fell on the bench.
Tuchel is sticking to the same frontline that started against Everton, though Ruben Loftus Cheek joins the team that could push ReeceJames back to center right back.
Chelsea line-up (3-4-3, right to left): Mendy (GK) – James, Thiago Silva, Koulibaly – Loftus-Cheek, Kante, Jorginho, Cucurella – Mount, Havertz; Sterling.
Five of Antonio Conte’s summer signings had to settle for a spot on the bench against Southampton in the opening weekend and the Spurs manager has stayed with the same side after such an emphatic display.
Richardson is available again after the suspension but only joins the substitutes, which is not surprising considering how deadly Dejan Kulusevski, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane looked in tandem.
Tottenham line-up (3-4-3): Lloris (GK) – Romero, Dier, Davies – Emerson, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Sessegnon – Kulusevski, son; Kane.
