“Cheryl has enough to think about on stage in front of a packed theater every night without having to think too, but steps have been taken to increase security and reassure her.”

It has been reported that Cheryl has her own security team monitoring her movements and escorting her wherever she goes, while a car is waiting outside the stage door to take her back to her home in Buckinghamshire.

A representative of Cheryl was contacted by MailOnline at the time.

And Cheryl opened up about her decision to pursue acting and teased her desire to take on more film projects during an appearance on The One Show.

She explained: “I think this is all just entertainment, I love being back in front of a live audience instead of just being on screen.

“You can feel the participation of the audience … it’s like an exchange of energy that’s not so different from performing a song.”

She also admitted joining the cast of 2:22 A Ghost Story “exceeded” her expectations as she gushed over how much she enjoyed it.

Cheryl plays in the play as Jenny, who believes her new home is haunted, but her husband Sam remains skeptical.

In the play, they argue with their first dinner guests, old friend Lauren and new partner Ben, and decide to stay up until 2:22 to find out the truth.

From day one, the production has relied heavily on what is known as stunt casting – in which a celebrity, often with little or no acting experience, gets a role to sell tickets.
