Daniel Jeremiah updates Giants pick in latest mock draft
With the NFL Scouting Combine less than a week away, mock draft season is in full swing.
NFL network draft analyst and former scout Daniel Jeremiah released his latest mock draft, updating his prediction for the Giants.
After walking with USC wide receiver Jordan Addison in his first mock draft last month, Jeremiah picked a new wideout for the 25th-ranked Giants – Tennessee’s Jalin Hyatt.
“The Giants are desperate for some explosiveness in the receiver. Hyatt has plenty of it,” writes Jeremiah.
Hyatt erupted in 2022 as it compiled the best receiving season in UT history. The 6-foot, 185-pound receiver drew 67 passes for 1,267 yards and a school-record 15 touchdowns in 12 games, including a program-record five points in a contest. He finished the season averaging 18.9 yards per reception and 105.6 yards per game.
The explosive receiver became the first player in school history to win the Biletnikoff Award, presented each year to the nation’s most outstanding wide receiver. He also became the first wide receiver in Tennessee history to be named a First-Team All-American and the first volunteer to accomplish the feat since Eric Berry in 2009. He was also named First-Team All-SEC while leading the conference in receiving yards, touchdowns, receptions per game (5.6) and receiving yards per game.
Hyatt totaled 41 receptions for 502 yards and four touchdowns in his first two years with the Volunteers.
Jeremiah ranked Hyatt 23rd in its top 50 draft rankings last month.
“Hyatt is a thin-walled wide receiver with rare speed,” wrote the NFL Media analyst. “In Tennessee for the past two years, he’s mostly traded in Josh Heupel’s spread attack and caught a lot of fast shots and over-the-top balls. He’s at his best when he can keep moving without having to downshift and work back to the quarterback. He has basic speed, destroys pillows instantly, and can find another gear with the ball in the air. He tracks the ball naturally over his shoulder and can play over the edge.
“He’s not very shady or elusive after the catch, but he can just run away from tacklers. He enjoyed his best game last season in Tennessee’s thrilling win over Alabama, producing play after play in a five-touchdown gold mine. Overall, Hyatt is a home run hitter with reliable hands.”
