Day to Day with Lexington Sporting Club
Charlie Machell and Kaelon Fox talk about being part of the first season every day
GEORGETOWN, Ky. (WTVQ) — For members of Lexington Sporting Club, playing for the team in its first season comes with a lot of responsibility, but that doesn’t mean you can’t indulge in the little things once in a while.
“Honestly, my favorite meal down south, in Lexington, me and Foxy [Kaelon Fox]”We tried a place called Indi’s, just like a fried chicken place, we ate it once and it was pretty good,” says team midfielder Charlie Machell.
Machell and Kaelon Fox have taken very different paths to the club, but they have one thing in common: a passion for the sport.
“I played a lot of football and was active in many different sports at school. And I remember my first football game with my aunt and my cousin who had season tickets for Newcastle for 25 years. So that got me into football,” adds Machell.
Meanwhile, Kaelon Fox says, “I’m from Louisville, but I played soccer in Lexington for four years. I played youth club football in Lexington for Lexington Football Club. So it just made the most sense to me at the time.”
Nowadays, Charlie and Kaelon are roommates and share the field and a home.
Most mornings at Georgetown College begin with breakfast before heading to the stadium for training and practice.
And as a leader in a team, it also means setting a good example.
“I went to Kentucky, where I got my bachelor’s degree, and then I got my master’s as well. Those two things along with the second job which is still based in the sports field is something I’m very passionate about,” Fox added of having a second job and a backup plan for the next chapter of his life.
Although their evenings may be different, both Charlie Machell and Kaelon Fox are both youth coaches and never forget where it all began, especially with the younger fans.
“It’s a great feeling to see young, young players, girls and boys, coming out and watching the games,” Machell said.
Fox also says: “It was really great to see them after games, whether it was a loss, a draw or a win. I think, I think I just went there to show support and sign anything, be it a jersey or a ball or something.”
now and then a crocodile shoe. So I think any interaction we can have with these kids after the games will be important for their development.”
Lexington SC will be on the road this weekend to take on South Georgia Tormenta FC.
Their next home game is June 14 against the Chattanooga Red Wolves.
