DeSantis Vs. Trump: Here’s Who GOP Women Favor In Latest Michigan Poll Ahead Of 2024 Election

More than a year before Michigan residents will go to the polls to vote for the GOP nominee they believe should be the next president, the potential swing state is showing mixed results in a new poll the voters.

What happened: The 2024 election will likely see the Republican Party in a two-person race to secure the nomination for the party’s presidential nomination. While many pundits expect the election will come down to a race between Florida governor Ron DeSantis and former President donald trumponly Trump has launched his official campaign.

The GOP party could see a crowded field in the 2024 election with Trump and the former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley already announced their candidacy. Considered by many to be the front runner, DeSantis has yet to announce that he is running.

Other potential Republican candidates include former vice presidents Mike Pence, Tim Scott, Ted Cruz, Greg Abbott, Mike Pompeo And Liz Cheney.

The majority of the polls show a tight battle for first and second place between DeSantis and Trump. Benzinga previously reported that DeSantis led Trump in many of the polls that asked voters which one they would choose between the two named candidates. Polls that gave voters more than two options have given Trump a head start.

Now a new poll shows how DeSantis and Trump are doing in Michigan and how demographic factors are playing a role.

The Michigan Survey: A new Michigan state poll by Echelon Insights found that 47% prefer DeSantis for the GOP nomination, according to the New York Post. Trump came second in the poll with 42% of the vote. Eleven percent of the respondents could not decide or refused to answer.

Although DeSantis did not officially declare himself the presidential candidate for the 2024 election, he received strong support from several sections of the population.

Among senior voters, DeSantis ousted Trump by 54% to 32%. The men surveyed chose DeSantis by a margin of 51% to 41%. Residents of Detroit, the state’s most populous city, also preferred DeSantis by a margin of 48% to 40%.

One area where Trump defeated DeSantis was among Republican women in the state of Michigan. Women narrowly favored Trump with 43% to 40% of the vote.

The fight between Trump and DeSantis could get rough, and the former president has come up with several nicknames for DeSantis, including “Ron DeSanctimonious.”

In the Michigan poll, 30% said they had heard “a lot or some” about the nickname, while 68% said they were unfamiliar with the term.

Of those who had heard the moniker, 45% said it reflected “a worse image of Trump.” Fifty percent of those who heard the nickname said it hadn’t changed their minds. The remaining 5% said the nickname reflected “deSantis worse.”

Michigan is expected to be a battleground state and potential swing state in the 2024 election. Michigan has favored Democratic presidential nominees since 2000, with the front runner winning over 50% in every but one election since 2000.

In the 2016 presidential election, Trump won the state of Michigan by a narrow margin of 47.5% to 47.3%, but missed a 50% majority. president Joe Biden Michigan won the 2020 election by a margin of 50.6% to 47.8% in a matchup against Trump.

patrick ruffini, A pollster who oversaw the Echelon Insights poll said the recent poll in Michigan was “notable given Trump’s surprise victory there in 2016 and his past strength in the Midwest and Rust Belt states.”
