Egypt Sports Minister witnesses signing of protocols for hosting World Cup for The Egypt Aquatic Festival

Cairo – His Excellency Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister for Youth and Sport, attended the signing ceremony between the World Aquatic Federation (WAF) and the Egyptian Swimming Federation (ESF) on Saturday. Under the terms of the agreement, a series of international water sports competitions will be held in Somabay, in the Red Sea resort town of Hurghada.

The ceremony was attended by Captain Pilot Husain Al Musallam, President of the WAF, Eng. Yasser Idris, Chairman of the Egyptian Swimming Federation, Eng. Ibrahim Zaher, Secretary General of the Egyptian Swimming Federation, and Eng. Ibrahim El-Missiri, CEO of Abu Soma Tourist Development Company.

The agreement is said to include three international water events including: Water Ballet World Cup, World Beach Water Polo Qualifiers and Open Water Swimming Championship. In addition, 600 participants worldwide are expected to take part in the events, which will start by May 2023.

On this occasion, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister for Youth and Sport, his willingness to host major international tournaments in various games throughout the year. He placed great emphasis on exploiting Egypt’s potential, including sports infrastructure built to international standards, luxury hotels, a modern road and transport network, and organizational and administrative expertise.

In addition, the minister noted the coordination with the organizing committee for the international water sports championships that will be held in Soma Bay and efforts to achieve their success like various championships in Egypt. He thanked the World Aquatic Federation for their confidence in Egypt’s ability to host the championships.

For his part, Ing. Yasser Idris, President of the Egyptian Swimming Federation, expressed his delight at hosting this series of international sporting events in Egypt and highlighted the full support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. He also appreciated the WAF’s trust in Egypt, noting that this would give us more responsibility to perform in a presentable manner and draw the world’s attention to our ability to organize similar events, increasing the chances of Egypt becoming a hub to make for international sport .
