71 minutes: Poor! A well-crafted routine sees Bukayo Saka jumping over the ball before James Maddison flicks it back to him.

With a better angle on goal, Saka shoots but hooks his curl wide of the far post.

69 minutes: Ruslan Malinovsky conceded the game’s first yellow card after Saka’s quick feet carried the ball around the midfielder just outside the box.

Saka goes down and England have a chance to take a free kick inside the box.

66 minutes: Nearly! James Maddison takes the ball and drives through a gap onto the left inside channel. He carries the ball into the penalty area and tries to slip Bukayo Saka in.

His past is a bit too heavy and rolls closer to goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin, who picks it up just before Saka gets there.

63 minutes: Triple substitution for Ukraine: Eduard Sobol, Vitaly Buyalskiy and Victor Tsygankov replace Myhailo Mudryk, Oleksandr Karavaev and Vitaly Mykolenko.

60 minutes: Played an hour at Wembley. It was a cautious quarter of an hour for Ukraine, with England controlling the game without having to expend too much energy.

They are very solid defensively and are supported by Ukraine’s slow, static nature of build-up play.

57 minutes: Close! England pushes the ball around the field beautifully and adds an extra man through Kyle Walker’s forward run. That leaves Bukayo Saka space on the right side of the box and his low cross comes to Jude Bellingham.

The pass is easy in front of him and Bellingham’s guided touch can only knock the ball wide of the target.

54 minutes: There are not many signs of pressure from Ukraine. For now, they seem content to keep England at bay while trying to recapture the ball in midfield.

51 minutes: England’s next corner comes to Jordan Hendersonw who bowls it to Ben Chilwell. Chilwell then shoves a pass into the feet of James Maddison, who goes on target and fires a shot high and wide.
