Everton transfer news LIVE – FFP latest, Premier League sanction, Nathan Patterson boost

Hello and welcome to Liverpool ECHO live Sunday blog for all the Everton news you need to get out of Goodison Park.

Big news broke on Friday afternoon after a report emerged from the Telegraph insisting the Blues “face a points deduction or a hefty fine after being charged by the Premier League with breaching financial rules”. The report adds that “there is no timeframe for when the case will be heard, but it is considered unlikely that a decision will be made this season.”

The Premier League also released a statement on the matter, insisting the club was referred to an independent commission for an “alleged breach” of profit and sustainability rules. Everton have since responded to those allegations, expressing their “disappointment” with the decision, while making clear they “stand ready to defend their position strongly to the Commission”.

Meanwhile, Sean Dyche and Everton received a boost as Nathan Patterson continued his recovery from a knee injury by making his first appearance since 3 January in Scotland’s 3-0 win over Cyprus yesterday.

Everything we know so far after Everton were accused of breaching Premier League financial rules

Everton has long believed that all problems at the club are confined to matters on the pitch. That is now set to be put to the test as the club face allegations of breaching Premier League financial regulations.

Everton firmly rejects the allegation. The club have already said they believe they have played by the rules – and will “vigorously defend their position”.

From the timeframe of an investigation to the potential punishment if Everton have broken the rules, this is uncharted territory for the club, the fans and indeed the Premier League. But what is clear is that this is another complex issue the club are grappling with in their second straight fight against relegation.

The premier league revealed his belief that Everton have a case to answer in a statement released Friday afternoon. This followed a complaint made by the organization earlier that day for “an alleged breach of the league’s profitability and sustainability rules”. The exact details of Everton’s charges have not been released, but the club will have an opportunity to defend themselves before an independent commission appointed by Premier League Judicial Panel chairman Murray Rosen KC. The case will be tried in camera, but its outcome will be made public. Should Everton discover a breach of the regulations, which they clearly deny, the possible sanctions are a fine or a point deduction.
