Exeter murder investigation latest as police hold Devon man

A man arrested on suspicion of murdering a woman in her 70s in an Exeter park on Saturday afternoon remains in custody, police confirmed this morning.

The 30-year-old Exmouth-area man was arrested around 9.30pm in the town center by armed officers following an investigation by homicide detectives. The inquest began after the body of a woman was found in Ludwell Valley Park in the Wonford area of ​​Exeter around 4pm on Saturday. Paramedics were initially called to the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead.

Devon and Cornwall Police have not yet confirmed the nature of the woman’s injuries or whether any weapons were confiscated.


A press conference will be held at 11am today and police are expected to give more information about the crime and the woman, as well as requesting more information from the public.

Last night, lead investigating officer Supt Tom Holmes said the public could expect an “increased police presence” in key areas of Exeter, including the Wonford area where a number of cordons remain in place. He added that police are “not currently looking for anyone in connection with this crime”.
