Extrapolations | Release date, cast and latest news for Apple TV+ show
New Apple TV+ drama Extrapolations arrives this week with a lot of hype, not least because of its timely premise and star-studded cast.
Starring the likes of Meryl Streep, Kit Harington, Sienna Miller and Daveed Diggs, the eight-part series tells the story of humanity’s future as it grapples with the effects of climate change, with each episode skipping forward in time.
The series tells independent stories with a continuous thread between them and was created by Scott Z Burns, whose previous work includes writing the predictive pandemic film Contagion and producing the climate change documentary An Inconvenient Truth.
But when can viewers see it, what’s the release schedule, and who else is in the cast? Read on for everything you need to know about extrapolations on Apple TV+.
Extrapolations begin with the release of episodes Friday, March 17 on Apple TV+. The first three episodes will be released at once, followed by another new episode each week on a Friday.

The official synopsis for Extrapolations states that the eight-part series is “writer, director and executive producer Scott Z Burns’ refreshing drama that envisions a near future where the chaotic effects of climate change are embedded in our daily lives.”
It continues: “Eight interwoven stories about love, work, faith and family from around the world will explore the intimate, life-changing choices that must be made as the planet changes faster than the population.

“Every story is different, but the struggle for our future is universal. Are we brave enough to become the solution to our own undoing before it’s too late?”
Speaking of the series, Burns said it was “at its heart” a thriller. He continued, “As with any thriller, the stakes are high – the future of life on Earth. And like other thrillers, there’s a ticking clock, but on our show that clock is played by the calendar, marking the annual rise in temperature, decades of carbon rise, rising seas, and rapid spread of wildfires.
“All of this and more makes up the climate change time bomb — because all of these things have an impact that we feel in every aspect of our lives. And all of these things are the result of human activity on Earth – so our characters are both the ticking time bomb and the heroes trying to defuse it before it’s too late.”
Burns also said that the series is not strictly an anthology as the episodes are intended to be viewed in chronological order so that the characters’ lives can be measured against the effects of climate change.
Extrapolations is spearheaded by an enormously star-studded cast, with each installment introducing us to new characters played by a new cast of Hollywood stars.
Although some characters recur in multiple episodes, many appear in just one. The cast includes stars such as Kit Harington, Meryl Streep, Edward Norton and Gemma Chan.
In addition to the main cast, the series also stars supporting cast including Heather Graham, Judd Hirsch, Douglas Hodge, Michael Gandolfini and Murray Bartlett.
