F1 Singapore Grand Prix – Start time, starting grid, how to watch, & more

The Ferrari driver clinched his ninth pole of the season by beating Sergio Perez by 0.022s as his Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen had to abandon his final qualifying lap due to running out of fuel.

The losing lap meant the F1 world champion was relegated to eighth place, leaving Verstappen furious with his Red Bull team.

Lewis Hamilton was also in contention for pole position but missed it by 0.054s to remain third on the grid in what was still his best qualifying result of the season while the Mercedes driver took the spotlight after picking up a nose stud wore and got into trouble with the FIA.

Across the Mercedes garage, George Russell was the notorious dropout in Q2 as he struggled with a gas issue meaning he was only able to make 11th Place.

Despite his tough qualifying session, Verstappen can still seal the F1 world championship crown this weekend if the results go as he wishes. Here’s how:

  • If Verstappen wins with the fastest lap, Leclerc will be eighth or lower and Perez fourth or lower
  • If Verstappen wins without the fastest lap, Leclerc will be ninth or lower and Perez fourth or lower without the fastest lap

Any alternative outcomes that don’t fit these two scenarios and the title fight moves on to the Japanese GP.
