FA Cup quarter final draw results, fixtures, dates and times for 2022/23 tournament

The 2022/23 FA Cup season is fast approaching the sharp end of the famous competition. The quarter-final draw took place on Wednesday 1 March and saw both Manchester clubs – favorites to win the tournament – avoid each other in the last eight.

Both Manchester City And Manchester United were drawn to host their single-elimination quarterfinal matchups. Man United welcome another Premier League man Fulham FCwhile Man City will take on former captain Vincent Kompany, who manages the second division Burnleyon the way to promotion to the top division.

Cinderella Page City of Grimsby need to win again away from Premier League opponents to keep their run alive. After beating Southampton in the last 16, they travel to face Brighton & Hove Albion, who have never won the trophy in their club’s history. It has been 84 years since Grimsby Town did not reach this stage.

In the meantime, we’re guaranteed to have a champion team in the semifinals Sheffield United And Blackburn Rover fighting for a place in the last four.

Results of the FA Cup quarter-final draw

Host teams are listed first. The schedule is yet to be determined but they will take place over the weekend of Saturday 18th March and Sunday 19th March.

Will there be replays of the FA Cup quarter-finals?

The 2022/23 FA Cup quarter-finals will not feature replays. The previous round (round of 16) was the first phase of this season’s tournament that did not include replays for tied games.

Replays were slowly removed from the FA Cup, starting with the final and now including the round of 16.

In 1998/99 the English FA waived replays in the final and a year later in the semi-finals. It took a few years before quarterfinal replays were eliminated (2016/17) and the 5th round (Round of 16) was the last round where replays were eliminated in 2018/19.

Instead of a replay, teams drawn after 90 minutes of their quarter-finals go into 30-minute overtime, followed by a penalty shootout if necessary.

When was the FA Cup quarter-final draw?

The FA Cup quarter-final draw was performed live on BBC One in the UK on Wednesday 1 March.

It took place after the final match of the fifth round between Sheffield United and Tottenham.

As usual, the draw was live streamed for free on the official FA Cup YouTube channel.

Broadcasting rights holders from around the world were also expected to provide television broadcasts, with the BBC broadcasting the draw in the UK.

All eight quarter-finalists had been confirmed on Wednesday 1 March, with four Premier League teams and four teams from the lower tier making the cut: three from the second tier league and Grimsby Town from the second tier.

Brighton & Hove Albion and Fulham, two of the surprise teams in the 2022/23 Premier League, are aiming for their first FA Cup trophy in club history.

When will the FA Cup quarter-finals be played?

The FA Cup quarter-finals are scheduled to take place over the weekend of Saturday 18 March.

The four games will likely be spread over two days this weekend, so expect a game or two to be played on Sunday 19th March as well.

FA Cup Round 5 results

Before the quarter-finals took shape, the 8-game 5th round featuring nine Premier League teams delivered plenty of drama.

Blackburn shocked Leicester City on the road while Sheffield United needed just a goal from Iliman Ndiaye to defeat Tottenham. Man United came from behind to beat West Ham while Fulham crushed Leeds United in another clash between Premier League sides.

Man City edged past Bristol City while Brighton needed just a goal to beat second division side Stoke City.

The surprise of the round was fourth tier side Grimsby Town going to St Mary’s to beat Premier League basement dwellers Southampton.
