How to farm in Dreamlight Valley
Let’s start with the basics. In order to farm in the game you have to dig up a piece of earth, plant a seed in it, water it with your watering can and then wait for it to grow. To complete this process you will need 4 things:
- A shovel
- A watering can
- A seed (of any kind)
- A free ground without obstacles
Luckily for you, you get the first two items during the opening missions of the game, since the tools are mandatory for you to continue advancing in your journey. There is also plenty of free space in the starting area, so that is not a problem either. So only seeds remain.
Where to buy all seeds
So the question is: how do you get seeds? Well, there are a few different options. You can occasionally earn seeds as early quest rewards, and they can be collected by clearing night thorns in different areas (rewarding different types of seeds depending on the area).

However, your most reliable method of getting seeds is from Goofy’s Stalls. These can be opened in any other area/biome of the valley for a small fee and each sells different stocks (including seeds) specific to the biome the stall is in. The rarer the seed, the more it will cost, but it’s a great way to snag an elusive ingredient you need for a meal or to complete a specific quest objective.
Dig a hole, plant the seed, water it when it starts to wilt to continue the growing process, then reap the rewards of your hard work!

Sowing and harvesting crops can be a tedious process, and while harvesting crops can be a reward in itself, you can make it even more rewarding if you involve a friend in the process.
Each NPC character that you bring into play (with a few exceptions like Ariel and Ursula) can be assigned specific roles that will help increase your friendship level with them should they participate in this activity. Some of these roles that are particularly relevant to farming are digging and harvesting. BUT even if a character is assigned a different role that has nothing to do with farming, it’s still worth having a friend with you, since any activity with him in your company will still increase your friendship level.

Best Seeds to Earn Star Coins Fast
With so many aspects to consider such as seed price, growing time, crop yield, selling price, it’s easy to get a little overwhelmed when trying to figure out which seeds are the best bang for your buck. Luckily we did the calculations and figured out which of the following seeds will give you the best win per minute.
If you’re curious, here’s how we worked out our calculations. First we calculated how many harvests can be made per hour (60 minutes divided by the growth time). We then calculated the profit per seed, assuming you bought them from one of Goofy’s booths (Selling price minus starting price). Next we use the Total harvests per hour and multiply by the profit per seed. Finally we take them overall profit that we just calculated and Divide that by 60 minutes. This gives us the Total profit per minute.

According to our calculations, here are the two most efficient and profitable seeds that will quickly make you the most money:
- Rapeseed = 2.4 Star Coins per minute
- Rapeseed can be purchased from Goofy’s Stall in the Forest of Valor. Canola seeds are also best grown in the Forest of Valor region.
- Carrots = 2.66 Star Coins per minute
- Carrot Seeds can be purchased from Goofy’s Stall in Peaceful Meadow. Carrot seeds are also best grown in the Peaceful Meadow region.
When it comes to harvesting your veggies, remember to always have a character with the gardening role with you as it will help increase your overall yield.
